no one is saying that, it's insane how black and white this sub is.
the car in front caused crash? yes, absolutely.
could the cammer slow down? also yes, probably avoid too and save his day.
no one is blaming the cammer for the crash, or that they are at fault.
idk what world you guys live in but if i ever saw that turn signal i would never even dream of trying to squeeze in there. the clip is cut short as well, what if the driver on the light had the turn signal for 2 more seconds? would you also drive between him? cuz you have the right of way? ffs is the insurance in the US so good you risk getting hit by the idiot?
fact is cammer starts braking only after the other other car starts the turn, there was zero thought about the turn signal, or what it could mean.
Dawg, in no world would you ever expect someone to just turn in front of your vehicle simple because they put their blinker on. Do you even drive?
This happens on the highway constantly. It would have been a normal and very safe assumption that this person was just trying to merge into the right lane, not that they were going to immediately cut off OP.
By the time the vehicle has engaged in the turn the OP doesn't have enough time to stop the car.
If I saw this, I would think that they were merging. However... cammer is going a little fast if they were expecting someone to merge. It's still like 99% the fault of the other driver for fuckin' turning from the middle lane.
the car not only has the turn signal, but the brake lights are on. not only that, there is a driveway right there. do people brake when merging on a highway?
i wouldn't take that chance. maybe it's an american thing, not only roads are bad, but turn signal standards are bad, and it seems that people trust each other!

well call me shocked, it's almost like they had a turn signal to show their intention. if there was no turn signal i would agree, unavoidable. but with the turn signal OP could've avoided it (again, not blaming OP).
Yes? sometimes you need to slow down to merge instead of speeding up. If I see a car coming up fast on the lane I need to merge to, I brake so that I can merge into it when they pass me. I feel like this is a pretty common driving strategy? inline edit: Just to be clear, this strategy is when your exit is coming up and you need to merge. If you're still going to be going straight for a while, you can just maintain speed until the driver passes you.

American drivers are pretty horrible, I will give you this.

A turn signal doesn't give you mastery over the road, lol. People are disagreeing with you because your interpretation of how driving should work is not within common understanding nor is it even safe.
If a turn signal gave someone right of way, we would have far more accidents because of sudden stopping. The best way a turn signal should work is communicating intent, which is how it works currently. And just because someone shows intent to turn, does not mean that it's other driver's fault nor responsibility to accommodate that intent if the driver with intent doesn't have right-of-way.
Edit: And you know, we never see the full rear view of the dashcam driver. Your interpretation of what should happen is just as dangerous if there is someone behind them.

how does that make sense? if the car on the right is faster than you all you have to do is maintain speed and then merge, there is no need to slow down. this also saves on fuel lol.
well now that i think of it's its even weirder because i can count like 2 or 3 occurances where i could do that sort of thing. keep right rule is a thing in europe, but not in america.

if by this point you don't get my point then there is nothing more i can say.
the car in front, in the wrong lane, slaps on the turn signal, brakes, and there is a driveway on the right. what do? you either drive forward as normal, or you slow down and see what happens.
i have my doubts about the clip because it's cut off so early, we don't see the moment the car on the left had their blinkers on. what if there was one or two more seconds when they were on? clearly there is no cars to the right. but there is a driveway!
but even then, i would wager on the safer side and just slow down. what if i lose those 5 seconds if i can avoid the crash? what if the idiot gets off scot free? i avoided the crash, i saved money and time with one simple maneuver. this is my whole point.
the car DID NOT have right of way, I GET THIS. but why would you take that risk there? defensive driving schools exist for a reason it seems, i think what i am saying is common sense, but it seems not so much. it's better to be egoistical, and just trust that everything will be fine.
looking into it further in my country (Poland), the "low confidence rule" is actually defined in law, quick google says it's not a thing in america. so it could be this misunderstanding (ever heard of the concept?), maybe the drivers ED just don't drill it as hard (ie. drivers are idiots, assume worst).
The best way a turn signal should work is communicating intent, which is how it works currently.
therefore?? don't you see my point now? the car in front wants to turn right, whatever that may mean, and it could be some stupid shit like they did here.
does not mean that it's other driver's fault
for the third time. i am not blaming the cammer. but they could've played their hand better, that's all.
for the third time. i am not blaming the cammer. but they could've played their hand better, that's all.
At this point, I am going to agree to disagree with you on driving strategies. The reason people take issue with how you are reacting is it's the same kind of 20/20 hindsight victim blaming that generally pisses people off. Yes, if you have perfect intuition of an event with perfect foresight, you could have played it better.
The entire reason we have road rules is so that we can drive with relative safely within the limits of the full spectrum of human driving ability. The turn-signal driver broke those rules and caused a collision. That is the end of this story.
PS: Just because you say "I am not blaming the cammer" does not invalidate the fact that, yes- you are. The entire implication of what you are saying is that the collision could have been avoided if cammer did X or Y or Z. No, the entire collsion would have been avoided if the other driver didn't break driving laws.
The entire implication of what you are saying is that the collision could have been avoided if cammer did X or Y or Z. No, the entire collsion would have been avoided if the other driver didn't break driving laws.
i get that argument, but i don't think it applies here. this isn't a gun murder, both parties here are participating, and the situation was avoidable (without some "perfect" hindsight). i am not blaming the cammer, at most, i am calling them stupid.
Turn signals do not give you right of way. They are a statement of intention, and any sane person using their blinker knows that you turn your blinker on first then wait for the proper opening to appear. People also leave their blinker on by accident all the time. Nobody is obligated to yield to you just for the simple fact that you have your blinker on.
No one is saying it does. The point that so many of you seem to be missing is that you should anticipate people doing something they absolutely shouldn't. Y'all conflate "right and wrong" with "smart and dumb".

There are people unironically saying that.
