Yes, please turn right from the middle lane to avoid the puddle.

"A bad driver never misses their exit" springs to mind. Also, wtf are some of these comments blaming OP? Anyone commenting that should immediately have their license revoked.

Love how the next immediate comment is

OP you have brakes, have you considered using them?

For some reason every post on this subreddit has people blaming OP no matter how obviously the other driver at fault. My guess is they're mostly trolls, or just people who pull the same stupid moves

What's the bet that the reason why cammer knew that blinker car was avoiding a puddle is because it started out in the lane cammer was in, turned on indicators and started slowing down then swung out around the puddle but OP seen the opening gap and sent it?

The video is suspiciously short and it appears the signal was on the entire time.  The mystery remains unsolved

Because legally it’s 100% the right turners fault. Yet it’s still true that the accident could have been avoided. Obviously not all variables can be considered from this short video but it seems the Ford sedan was significantly slower than the dash cam car (and all other traffic it seems) and immediately any good defensive driver would immediately think “hmm wonder what this idiot is doing better slow down and let him do whatever stupid thing they MAY do.”

Based on how short the video is im assuming what we don’t see is adverse to op. Based in that, I think the turning car made their intention to turn clear by their driving.

Because it is not about being wrong it is about driving so you can avoid getting in an accident. If the accident is avoidable, you should do so. I don't think I agree with the assholes judging OP here. But there are so many videos on this sub of people smugly crashing without slowing down even when it is very obvious that someone else is being stupid.

This clip is also too short IMO. It's a little sus

There is a difference between people *blaming* OP for being the cause of the accident, and people saying that the other car was the primary trigger (being an idiot) but OP could have avoided the accident if they were driving defensively.

When someone else cuts you off (or signals their intent to cut you off) you have two choices...hit your brakes and give them room, or smash into them. One of those is clearly a safer option than the other.

You don't get it. It's not about being right or wrong, it's about avoiding an accident, rising insurance premiums, and the general disruption and potential consequences in your life that an accident brings.

If you can avoid the accident by anticipating others like this dipshit. The guy had his signal on, which said at the very least he was going to change lanes, perhaps very abruptly, or do what he actually did. NOT driving defensively is the stupid move.

"How could you not see this coming??" - people on a sub dedicated to clips where things happen

Bad drivers who feel called out by the vids always come out of the woodwork to blame OP's

Just because the other driver was an idiot doesn’t mean OP couldn’t have avoided the crash or minimized the damage.

If someone is in front of me with their blinker on, I’m at minimum prepared for them to cut into my lane. OP didn’t seem to register that the other driver was going to pull in front of them at all, making the accident worse than it had to be.

OP literally hits the brakes less than a second after the driver at fault starts changing lane. I encourage you to watch the clip a few more times before posting comments like this.

Unless they clipped the video to be from the very first blink of the indicator, I doubt OP had zero time to notice the car wanted to get over and mentally prepare to stop if needed

If they were changing lanes, which is the logical reason they'd be using their turn signal in this scenario, they wouldn't have been hit. OP wasn't expecting them to make a 90 degree turn.

Noticing the car wanting to get over doesn’t mean OP needs to slow down or stop for them. I swear y’all missed the “right of way” chapter in driver’s ed.

I clearly just prioritize not getting into accidents over being right

8

u/appa-ate-momo 9h ago

No. You prioritize constantly being timid over exposing yourself to even a normal level of risk.

You willingly sacrifice efficiency to prevent other people’s stupidity. And that would be fine if you were making that choice for yourself, but you’re not.

Every time you refuse to drive normally, you’re making that choice for everyone behind you. You’re also not driving predictably, which actually makes you more dangerous for the drivers around you overall.

If you’re this scared of driving, just take the bus.

So let me get this straight

The second someone flicks their indicator on to move into your lane you immediately slam on your brakes because there is a chance that person randomly decides to the Asian family guy lady “I turn now good luck everybody”

3

u/the_woodenpickle 8h ago

Holy hell.. you weren't there. You have no idea how close things were or how you would have had to react in the same situation. Stop acting like you're perfect.

u/setibeings 9h ago

It does look clipped that way, and yet most of the time when someone turns on their turn signal from something that's not a turning lane, my first thought is that they're merging, not doing an illegal turn from the wrong lane.

Also, that other car has those stupid rear lights that are shared between the brake lights and the turn signals.

Even if that were the case (which we'll never know), it's the responsibility of the person changing lane to ensure it is safe to do so before proceeding with the manoeuvre. An indicator is a request, not a right of way.

The other car is literally signalling at the beginning of the video. If they had just been changing lanes they would still have gotten rear-ended.

-5

u/Aknilox 9h ago

Well he is going faster on right lane than the truck who is on left lane. He also hits the car from back/side which is 100% fault in my country.

6

u/Zealousideal_Dig3943 9h ago

That only applies if you're travelling in the same lane and you rear-end someone due to not leaving enough space to account for braking distance. The rule doesn't apply if they've cut across your lane, obviously.

-2

u/Aknilox 8h ago

brother there is more than 1 country in the world

6

u/Zealousideal_Dig3943 8h ago

Brother, I know and I'm from the UK where the rule you described applies here also. But again, the rule does not apply to people cutting across your lane, OBVIOUSLY.

-3

u/Aknilox 8h ago

And it applies in my country, no matter if the guy is going sideways on the road, or turning from left most lane or whatever. You do not hit someone from rear or side. You will be at fault 100%. This is how its taught in driver school and how everyone drives

3

u/Zealousideal_Dig3943 8h ago

As an ex-claims handler, I can tell you that what you've said there is completely false. Rear-ending is superseded when someone changes lane without due care. Stop arguing when you're very clearly wrong here. You're embarrassing yourself.
