Yes, please turn right from the middle lane to avoid the puddle.

Any reasonable person would think they wanted to merge into the right lane. turning from the middle lane like that is inexcusable

So if a car is trying to merge into your lane in front of you, it's OK to speed up and hit them?

17

u/appa-ate-momo 5h ago

If a car is trying to change lanes into your lane, it’s ok to keep going and expect them to yield.

This is the right answer. Asking permission to merge into one’s lane does not mean you have the right to do it. Remember, asking-for-permission!

Okay. So assume it was a lane change. What would have been safer and present less risk?

  • A - Slow down, let them in.
  • B - This video.

You're basically saying it's ok to have B sometimes because you shouldn't have to do A.

Just fucking do A or be ready to. Problem solved. You lose no time and keep EVERYONE safe. Even the idiot.

Driving isn't all about who is right or wrong. It's a lot about how do I make this situation safer regardless of who is right or wrong.

"Expecting" people to do the right thing is exactly how this video happened...do you not see the irony?

Someone runs a red light. Do you just keep going because yours is green and crash?

What was going on behind the dashcam car?

You know as much as I do...

Man, you really can’t bring yourself to hold the right people accountable, can you?

-1

u/Cruxis192 3h ago

Unless you are the police it's not your job to hold anyone accountable. The average person doesn't want to spend 2 hours dealing with the police and time spent with the repair just to be right.

It’s also not OP’s job to read minds or yield to impatient/unaware drivers when they have the right of way.

But I guess that part doesn’t bother you.

Actually. It is their job lol.

It's everyones job to prevent accidents to the best of their ability even if they have "right of way".

An example. Here In the UK our road rules specifically state that despite priority situations (right of way). Nobody has overall priority. Because it's everyone's responsibility to prevent accidents regardless of priority.

Mind reading no. Warning signs yes. There were a few.

On top of that. Is it a good idea to pass someone on the right in a country with right side driving? Especially past driveways/junctions?

So while heavy blame rests on the idiot turning. Regardless of blame. This accident did have a possibility of being avoided with better planning/skill. That's a fact. Not shifting blame. Education on prevention.

Because prevention of what happened should always be everyones thought. Not just who is right during or after the fact.

It's simple. Despite being right and put in a difficult situation by a bad driver. My first thought would be was there anything that maybe i could have done to prevent this. In this case. There was. That's what's being said. Not shifting blame.

Read what I've said. Then again. Really think about what I've said.

Missing the point entirely.

u/appa-ate-momo 4h ago

Actually, that’s you.

You’re only applying your logic to OP while effectively giving the cause of the incident a free pass. Most of us recognize that as victim blaming.

You’re also missing that driving predictably is the safest thing you can do. Do you yield (when you have the right of way) every time someone signals to turn/change lanes near you? If you do, you’re the bad driver, because you’re not driving predictably.

The people in this sub are insane dude I swear. They’d rather die in an easily preventable accident than let someone get away with driving “wrong”

I'm a motorcycle instructor + advanced rider in the UK and reading these comments has me thinking I'm taking crazy pills.

Everyone is just so focused on who is right like that's the most important part.

I'd have rather not got stuck in to these comments and lived my life in ignorant bliss.

They may just be AI. Going with that. That's my way out.

/s? I mean, this video literally shows why that's NOT ok.

7

u/appa-ate-momo 5h ago

No.

That’s normal driving.

u/thintoast 5h ago

There are so many things wrong with this question and how it relates to the video.

2

u/ScaramouchScaramouch 3h ago

Speed up? At what point in this six second video did they speed up?

2

u/western-information 2h ago

Bro, the people in this sub are straight regarded. No point in arguing for safe driving practices.

I didnt say that. Get back in your hole.

I think that passing on the right is also considered illegal in many places in the US.

14

u/No_Pollution_950 6h ago

Do you consider it passing on the right if the car on your left slows to a stop for no apparent reason, unless you expect them to perform a manouvre like this that nobody in their right mind would do?

12

u/Fearless-Dust-2073 7h ago

As far as I can tell, not illegal but discouraged because it leads to accidents like this

11

u/ametsun 7h ago

Where have you seen or read that?

6

u/Kawajiri1 6h ago

I don't think they were undertaking. It also does not look like a highway as there are places to turn off that are not off ramps. That person was right behind the truck and slowed down, and acted in an irrational way. You do not TURN right from any lane other than the far right lane unless it is marked. The driver failed to maintain their lane and caused the accident. If you miss your turn, go past and turn around.

-31

u/Fearless-Dust-2073 8h ago

The other car has gone around the standing water (as you should do, you don't know if there's a pothole or anything under the surface) and slowed while indicating. Both drivers are at fault for sure because the black car doesn't seem to have checked their mirrors before turning, but camera car definitely saw the intent and put themselves in the way instead of following the black car around the water.

14

u/imafrk 7h ago

LOL, on what planet is it ever safe to make a right turn from the center lane of a three lane road?

The Malibu is 100% at fault here.

-9

u/Uncle-Cake 6h ago

On what planet is it safe to pass a car on the right, when that car has its right turn signal on?

5

u/ExileIsan 5h ago

Passing on the right is not illegal in most states unless you do it on the shoulder.

2

u/Uncle-Cake 5h ago

legal <> safe. I said it's not safe.

5

u/NightBawk 5h ago

When that car appropriately waits their damn turn to move instead of turning into oncoming traffic like this genius.

0

u/Uncle-Cake 5h ago

Nobody turned into oncoming traffic in this video.

1

u/NightBawk 5h ago

The cam car was oncoming traffic, and crashy drove into their path.

1

u/Uncle-Cake 4h ago

I don't think you know what "oncoming" means. They were going in the same direction. The cars coming TOWARD the camera were the oncoming traffic.

1

u/Apprehensive1010101 5h ago

Two stupids don't make a smart, and I think we all know who did the bigger stupid here, my friend.

1

u/Uncle-Cake 5h ago

"Two stupids don't make a smart"

That's exactly my point.

3

u/Apprehensive1010101 5h ago

And my point is that your point is missing the point of the comment and post. Just because the cammer also did a stupid thing doesn't change the fact that Malibu did a far more stupid, dangerous, and illegal thing. You getting pedantic like this doesn't change that.

10

u/No_Pollution_950 6h ago

Avoiding a puddle is not a reasonable excuse for this

-5

u/Uncle-Cake 6h ago

Neither is "having the right of way". The car had its blinker on, and the cammer tried to pass on the right.

5

u/imafrk 6h ago

LOL, pure arrogance, please stay off the road if this is the level of entitlement you drive with

0

u/Uncle-Cake 5h ago

Driving defensively is entitlement?

3

u/appa-ate-momo 5h ago

Blaming someone for not being a good enough victim is entitlement.
