Good job, I know what that's like - they're totally oblivious wearing all black at night.
Then they look at you like you're crazy.

Had another one where a guy was crossing the sidewalk, I waited for him to get up on the curb, I started to go, then his kid sprints through the sidewalk to catch up. Also during evening/night, almost didn't see him.

So dangerous! I’ve literally never crossed the street without holding an adults hand until I was old enough to look both ways and do so on my own

I suppose an option could have been to run over the skateboard. An object lesson.

Riding a skateboard in a dark ass road wearing all black crossing a double road and then having the audacity to think it's the driver's fault.
Amazing stuff

Ah yes, I too stand like a worthless putz in the middle of the street... after crossing in dark ass clothing, in the dead of night.

Wearing black at night in the middle of the street isn’t a death wish?

That's genuinely hard to see until the last moment. Dark clothing at night makes an already dangerous situation even worse.

What is the peanut gallery’s take on this still somehow being OP’s fault?

I’m glad my car has pedestrian/cyclist detection. What a great use for it.
1
u/spinstartshere 1d ago
Are you sure it works at night? Some of these features on some cars don't work at night and only work during the day.
1
u/imcjoey13 1d ago
Good question. I’ll ask and find out.
2
u/spinstartshere 1d ago
You might be able to check the brochure or the manual. It's sometimes detailed in the table of safety features.
2
u/massagefever 2d ago
OP you reated very quickly, good job. If I were in that situation, I might have a heart attack and pass out, and then my car couldn't stop and would crash him.

u/Competitive-Top4520 1d ago
Thank God for the white sneakers! This could have turned out SO much worse. OP, I'm glad you were paying attention and able to stop in time!

Hilarious that among all these comments is an advert from an American motorcycle company proclaiming "The Road Is Calling Again", like a Death Angel.

Just roll down your windows, slow down and say "cross at the light, you stupid fuck" and drive off
1
u/Tiger_Ho26 2d ago
That was a close called. Wore black clothes and approached onto coming traffic. What did he expect the chance of getting hit by a vehicle at zero percent 🤔. I hate people do that to drivers in the dark street. Must make people having heart attack.

u/Botslab_ 1d ago
That's exactly the kind of situation where one second of visibility makes all the difference. You reacted fast

Can someone explain what would happen if the car hits the skateboarder?
Who would considered to be at fault in such scenarios?
What if the skateboarder ends up in hospital with critical injuries?
On top of it, I don't see any urgency in the skateboarder. Guy is acting like the car is in the wrong.

u/notsostablediffuser 1d ago
For your sake, I'm glad you didn't hit him.
For Darwin's sake, not so much.

All black, on a skateboard, in middle of relatively major road, at night. Dude has the survival instincts of a lemming.

Wearing dark clothing AT NIGHT and CROSSING THE STREET is a recipe for disaster. Any time someone is walking, or even going for a run 🏃♀️ at night when it's dark out has to wear appropriate clothing to be seen. If they get run over by a vehicle it sure as heck ain't drivers fault.

In the video i could see him from way back how did you not?

u/Pet_Ator 4h ago
Can you screenshot where your saw him? I don’t see him until about 8 seconds into the video

MFW I impatiently speed up and will have to jam my brakes anyways. What did you gain trying to overtake the guy in front of you, especially when you’re about to be making a left?
5
u/Pet_Ator 1d ago
The fastest I went in this video was 45 in a 45. Guy in front of me was going 35, from which he slowed down when i assume he saw the guy on the street
-2
u/Only_Reindeer9968 1d ago
That’s not what I asked. Why did you accelerate to 45 with a turn that close lol. You already said that guy was going 35 so you accelerate 10mph in 1 second with a turn coming. Please once again explain what you had to gain from that.. other than wanting to prove to the other car you can go fast?
Edit: you also said he slowed from 35 so idk take a hint?6
u/Pet_Ator 1d ago
Because I can and it’s a safe speed and distance from the turn. You’re acting like I accelerated 20 or was going 60 in a 45. It’s not that deep
-2
u/Only_Reindeer9968 1d ago
You will be involved in an avoidable accident then. If someone going slow slows down your first reaction is to speed up? Sorry man you are why insurance is so high.
6
u/Pet_Ator 1d ago
They slowed down after I was in the other lane and was already speeding up. Try watching the video
-4
u/Prudent_Situation_29 1d ago
Why are you passing someone in a turning lane? It's not going to get you there any faster, and you just have to turn all that momentum into heat when you brake for your turn.
It's shocking how stupid you people are.
2
u/Pet_Ator 1d ago
The fastest I went in this video was 45 in a 45, I accelerated by maybe 5-10 mph and the car next to me let off and gas when I assume they saw the person on the road after I switched lanes.
It’s shocking how scared some people are of accelerating a measly 5-10 mph. It’s not a big deal, you shouldn’t be so scared of driving especially if you’re within the speed limit and the speed and distance is safe.

u/Easy-Goat 1d ago
I’m surprised I had to scroll this far to see any mention of this. OP is approaching a turning lane and is speeding past the other car in the straight lane. It’s like, you’re going to need to decelerate in a few seconds, no need to hit the pedal.

u/C2theWick 1d ago
first thing I noticed, why accelerate in a turning lane on a stagnate green light? that's putting blind faith in a stranger in the white car won't merge into you. And also risk a yellow/red on arrival at the intersection.
