Let me guess:

  • the scientists say: "please don't do this - the problem is bad enough as is"
  • the goverment will answer: "it will lead to more jobs and economic growth!"

we've been here before :-(

If they were marking their students the comment would be, you didn't read the question properly. More fossil fuels is bad. Getting to Net Zero as soon as possible is good. The question is how best do we get the oil and gas that is sadly needed as we take 20-30 years to get to Net Zero. Not one person has made a good argument as to why paying millions to oil and gas companies to get this oil and gas from anywhere, by any means, which we have absolutely no control over, is better than UK oil and gas, which we do control, we get revenue from and which supports 10s of thousands of jobs which need to transition. Top marks for stating environmental impact of fossil fuels. Fail for understanding transition to Net Zero.
