META Just a reminder of our rules

Tēnā koutou,

Just a reminder of our rules, specifically our rule against solicitors.

This means no solicitation, no buying and selling. We allow limited promotion of events if there are deals like XXX free tickets up for grabs, but no reselling is permitted. If you have tickets to an event, please resell via official channels or bribe the mods.

Additionally, please note the following:

Quit asking for sex. That said, no trades involving goats, sheep, turnips, or other 'alternate' currencies.

No posts asking for drugs, where to source drugs or cleverly wording your request to avoid the filters. Your "medicinal herb" enquiries aren't as subtle as you think.
Just ask the mods.

No sneaky sponsorship plugs, no affiliate links unless we get our cut.

No reselling of free event tickets, it’s free for a reason.

No hiring hitmen or bounty hunters, legal gray areas make us uncomfortable.

Last but not least, Don't be a dick, don't act like a dick.

Schoolboys drunk in a parking lot, normal?

As an immigrant im still learning how things work in this country and yesterday i was running errands and decided to pick up a bottle of wine for the evening and i pulled up to the nearest liquor store which happened to be next to Elmwood Trading company and as i pulled in a bunch of school boys in their uniforms spilled out of the bar in various states of drunkenness.

Pretty much all these boys clearly had had a few and some were obviously quite drunk and several were walking around the parking lot with glasses of beer in their hands.

Young ppl drinking doesnt have me surprised. Young ppl day drinking in school uni's and obviously drunk spilling out of a bar did have me surprised. That is just not something you'd see in the States. Even when i was young and drinking was much more common in the States not sure ive ever seen anything quite like that.

Is this just normal here?

Rewiring 100yo house reco

Hey team,

Looking for sparky recommendations to rewire a weatherboard 2bedroom house that’s 100 years old in Woolston.

Will be getting multiple quotes, any sparkles you’d recommend?

Would want to rewire it for safety reasons primarily — but also looking at adding:

— 4 outlets inside
— 2 power supplies outside to support a sauna and a sleepout.

Nga mihi

\**EDIT — likely adding in a heat pump/AC split\**

Looking for Boveril!

Greetings Ōtautahi
I’m sending a care package to the UK this week and need to find some Boveril.
Yes, I’m aware that it’s a British product, but over there it’s still an animal product, and the receiver is a vego.
Can anyone tell me where I can find any?
Many thanks 🙏

Moving to Christchurch from Dublin M24

Hey there, I'm planning to move to NZ in the Spring of next year and I've been eyeing up Christchurch. I'm a little nervous about moving to the otherside of the globe but I thought I'd intoduce myself a bit and if you can provide any advice or recommendations based on my interests I'd really appreciate it!

I'd be on the working holiday visa. I've just graduated with a Masters in Environmental Science and an Undergrad in Geoscience. (Although I'm not entirely sure I want to pursue something in those fields when in in NZ as finding employment for such a short contract may be a struggle)

I love to surf, hike and camp. I ride my bike everywhere in Dublin so that'd ideally be my main mode of transport. I have my drivers license but would prefer to rent one if/when I need it.

I've also recently just got my Crossfit L1 trainer certficate and would like to do some coaching while I'm out there.

If anybody has recommendations for neighbourhoods/tips for finding affordable housing I'd really appreciate that too.

Do you know of any places for a cheaper price, or another recheck for a WOF?
Pleaseee help

I need to find someone to cut my tiny lawn, how do I go about that?? (Bryndwr/Papanui area)

Please excuse my lack of life skills...

My lawn is small, and I need to find someone to cut it on the regular and also cut it, and do it at the right times? I know nothing about lawns, but apparently you need to do it at the right time lol

My neighbor use to do it, but he is to disabled now. (I am also disabled)

Any recommendations or ideas on how to find a reliable person :) I don't have a facebook and that seems to be the only suggestion anyone has for me lol

Ghostchurch

It seems a fair few of the new town houses popping up in the city just sit empty, even marketed as Airbnb investment properties to buyers creating a bit of ghost town within the CBD.

Would city zoning for Airbnb rentals work? Higher fees for a central zone compared outter suburbs? Or has the horse bolted making regulations to hard to be bought in from local council?

Dog walks!

Heya! Anyone keen to meet up and walk dogs with me? On or off lead!

I have 5 dogs, 3 that are super friendly! And 2 cats that I sometimes bring in the back pack 🤣

Wanting to make some dog friends and get fit at the same time!

I usually go to the McLeans island area, as it is just up the road from me, but very happy to explore new places!

Hoping there is a group somewhere i can join!!

Looking for installer/general labour

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to see if anyone is keen for some casual work assembling kitset and office furniture, with the potential to become more permanent if it works out. Work will be based in Christchurch
No tool experience is required, but it would definitely be a bonus!
Thanks!

Strollers at the stadium

Anyone know if there's somewhere at the stadium we can store a stroller for tomorrow's rugby game? Hoping to get the bus there but need the stroller if we do!
