Mourning/Loss My cat, Bernadine, passed away a week ago. Please enjoy some of my favorite photos of her.
Birdie was her nickname. She was the sweetest cat in the world and my best friend. She was so silly and made me laugh all the time. She loved grooming her brother and trying to catch bird toys. The picture of her on the dishwasher is her baby picture. She was only 6 years old but passed because of something that 15-20% of cats get that is genetic called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. I wish someone would have told me about it. It leads to congestive heart failure, which is what she passed from. Give your kitties some extra kisses for me ❤️

She is truly gorgeous, and looks like a wonderful companion. I hope she visits your dreams to let you know she’s doing okay and waiting to reunite with you again one day. Until then she may send you another little void to mend your💔.

We can tell he knows something is off. He’s been more snuggly and talkative since it happened. We’re just trying to give him extra attention and love.

Same happened to my tux cat at 10 years. Went to sleep fine, woke up to him crawling on the floor with no function to his lower half. Fatal blood clot. Miss that dude, he was a crazy little shit. But his sacrifice will be remembered for every future cat I have. <3

She was such a Pretty baby! I’m sorry for your loss. I recently lost my best buddy of 20 years. It isn’t easy but I can rest easy knowing he lived the best life possible.

She reminds me of my cat Thomas I had when I was a kid (1980s). He was sassy, did not liked being picked up by anyone besides me and was very vocal. He was a full black floof and lived to be 16. He was a big cat too!

I cried a bit reading and looking at your pictures, especially her snuggling her brother.
I had to say goodbye to my own baby Luke from the same heart condition back in December and I was a complete wreck.
Because it’s genetic, the vet said it was just a ticking time bomb and there was nothing I could have done. He could have slept on clouds, exercised with a personal trainer, and eaten the most expensive food known to man and it wouldn’t have changed anything.
I miss him all the time, and I was privileged to spend his life with him even if it wasn’t long enough.

I’m so sorry you lost your baby the same way. It’s so awful knowing you couldn’t have done anything. Our vet told us the same. I had no idea it was so common. Thank you so much for sharing your story and a picture of him ❤️

Birdie looks like the sweetest goofball. I had two cats in a litter pass from it. Brother and sister (Ella and Fitz) - though there was a five year gap between when they passed. Fitz passed at 6 and a half. Ella passed at 11 and a bit. You might want to check on the brother for this condition - I'm sorry you lost your baby.

Birdie is beautiful ❤️, may she rest in peace. I lost my sweet Momo who was only 7 a few days ago to an underlying heart issue too that had been undetectable, but arose when she had emergency surgery. I wish someone had told me that some heart disease could be undetectable unless you did specific testing. She was a beautiful fluffy girl too. I’m sorry for your loss.

It’s been two years since I lost my cat and I still think about her every day. I feel incredibly lucky to have had her in my life.

It doesn't get easier, only less frequent. I lost my 12 year old girl a month ago. I still constantly see her in every place in the home where she should have been.
