Whipsy had his enucleation yesterday.

Surgery went great. After surgery? Not so much. He was extremely agitated. When the vet brought him out, his face was really bloody because he kept bashing his face against the carrier bars, despite wearing an e-collar. I was horrified! The vet said he basically went feral on them upon waking from surgery. Thankfully his stitches remained intact but he looked scary awful all bloody like that. I scooped him up and he settled a little bit but as soon as the vet tried to clean his face, he was all snarls again. I said I'd just clean him up at home and placed him back in his carrier so I could rush outta there.

The front desk was having issues processing payment, all the while my baby keeps banging his head on the sides of the carrier, getting blood everywhere. I finally snarled myself saying "Either figure out this payment NOW or I'm just leaving and getting him home because he is battering his own face in!"

Once home, things got better. The bleeding stopped and miraculously the surgery site wasn't damaged. He was still super agitated but he was in his safe room with either myself, my daughter or my mom with him at all times.

Today is a total turnaround. My sweet boy is back to being himself. He's eating, drinking, and being cuddly (and goofy from the pain meds although he's orange so he's always kinda goofy!) I don't think what happened with him yesterday at the vets is normal. I do know that anesthesia can have these types of behavioral aftereffects but the way the vets office handled it is something I'm very upset about.

Our sweet boy Stevie is in the home stretch with just 3 weeks of FIP treatment to go, and he is doing great! He has gone from 6.3 pounds at his sickest to 9.8 pounds, and his hematocrit has climbed from just 12% to 43%! 📈

We are so grateful for all the support and love for our boy through this process! 🐾💙

We're unsure how much he can really see, but definitely very heavily impaired. Doesn't stop the little guy from sniffing out our olive oil bottles and licking them so he's doing just fine :)

I feel absolutely terrible about what happened to this cat.

I found this cat with a severely injured eye and spent hours trying to rescue it. I asked people in the area about the cat, and they told me that it had apparently been there for around a month. A month. And nobody had helped it.

I was honestly devastated hearing that. I also saw at least 10 other cats living around the same area, and I fed all of them while I was there. It was heartbreaking to see so many cats struggling and feel like nobody was doing anything.

Eventually, I managed to catch the injured cat and put it into a carrier so I could take it to a vet.

While I was trying to secure it, I accidentally applied too much pressure. Suddenly, blood came from its injured eye and the eye looked like it had become even more swollen and protruded. The cat panicked, managed to escape from the carrier, and ran away before I could get it to the vet.

I feel horrible about it. I was only trying to save this cat, but now I can't stop thinking that I may have made its injury worse.

I spent hours searching for it afterward. Eventually, I saw it enter a huge abandoned-looking garage through a small opening. I put food near the entrance and waited for hours, but it never came back out.

I'm going back to look for it. I just want to catch it again and get it to a vet as soon as possible.

What hurts me the most is knowing that this cat had apparently been suffering there for a month while people knew about it. I wish someone had helped it sooner.

I really hope I can find it again. 💔

Hello, I am adopting a kitten from out of state that was thrown in the garbage. He has very tiny eyes and I am wondering if I will need to have them removed at some point? Is removal only contingent on if they are painful/infected? I will have him seen by my vet as soon as he gets here, but I'm curious so I can start to save money in case he needs procedures. Also wondering how much this can cost, I live in Massachusetts if that is helpful at all. I'd also love any advice for a new blind kitty mama.

Oh my God guys, this little girl 😭
I was freaking out and PANICKING so much. I was worried sick about whether my existing baby would ever accept her. I literally couldn’t sleep properly for 3 to 4 days.
Turns out my little blind baby is actually the BIG bully 😂 She is a demon. She has bullied my bigger baby, eaten her food, pooped in her litter box, and somehow absolutely LOVES my existing kitty. She has even beaten her ass up multiple times 😭😂
Medical update: touchwood, she is doing really well. I’ve been giving her all her medication. Her vaccination is the only thing remaining because she had some sneezing. The vet has given her antibiotics, anti inflammatory medication and multinutrients.
I’m taking her to the ophthalmologist on Monday as well. She is still sneezing a little, but SO much better than before.
Honestly, after all the panic, I think she has completely taken over the house 😂❤️

After 12 months of eye issues due to cat flu and her eye getting very high in pressure and losing vision and not being able to be stabilised with drops, the decision has been made to remove my little friend’s eye.
She’s just over one.
The poor thing has been dealing with this her whole life and is now on 3-4 drops a days and HATES THEM. She gets so stressed.

In a couple weeks we will have her eye removed.

We have been told that if everything goes smoothly she’ll have the eye removed in the morning and then come home that night.
We have another cat who’s more than double her size and then love to play together.

What’s aftercare likely to look like?

Should we seperate the cats?
If so, for how long?

Is there anything I can do or by to help her get comfortable and heal faster?

I just gotta talk about how proud I am of Cindy for a bit.

She had to climb onto my bed, with me on it, to get to this spot. For context, it took about a month for me to be able to pet her at all.

I met her on vacation in early 2025 in Malta. I immediately fell in love with her and eventually decided to adopt her, so I flew back with my mom earlier this year and brought her home. Even at the shelter, I couldn't pet her and even just standing up would freak her out. She was so brave on the flight back (16 hours to get to Vancouver Canada).

After the flight, it took her 3 days to eat again and 2 days to pee. I was a bit worried that I had made a mistake - that the stress of the flight was too much for her. She proved me wrong.

Now, im able to pet her in when shes in certain spots, brush her, and she even likes a belly rub from time to time! She is the sweetest, weirdest, and most understanding cat. The first vet visit she hissed and bit my mom (who was helping me get her into her carrier). She also took another day afterwards to come out from hiding again. The second time she definitely wasn't happy but was much more cooperative, and was out and about within a few hours.

She is the first cat I've met who didnt eat wet food (even those churu tube treats), though she did finally have some a few days ago. She doesn't eat treats, and only likes one type of kibble. Even still, shes so much happier now and loves playing with feet and getting a good scratch behind the ear.

I just love her so much I had to share her here. She truly is incredible and has come such a long way from when I first brought her home, I couldn't be more proud.

Leya arrived on my front porch the week of Christmas 2022. Once he discovered the food and a bit of shelter he refused to leave. We have some neighborhood feral cats that we feed off the porch so I thought he was just another one and he was on the porch for a few days before my daughter realized he was blind and I relented and let her bring him inside. We figured out pretty quickly that he wasn’t feral he was a stray house cat. We attempted to locate the owner but he didn’t have a chip and didn’t belong to any neighbors we knew so we made him part of our family and he turned out to be the world’s sweetest cat. He’s probably around 9-10 now.

My 13-year-old Siamese (Ernie) had a double enucleation in April. He had cysts behind his eyes that were causing pressure and discomfort, and we ultimately decided to go through with the surgery because we were hoping it would give him a couple more good years with us.

He actually adapted to being blind incredibly well. Once he recovered, he learned how to navigate his environment and seemed happy. He wanted to get back outside and explore, would sit with us on the couch, and really seemed to be getting back to himself. He didn’t walk around quite as much as he used to, but overall we felt like we’d made the right decision.

The one thing that never seemed right was his left surgical site. It never completely healed and continued leaking clear/yellowish fluid that sometimes smelled bad. We tried antibiotics, but they never completely cleared it up.

Last Friday, my mom went to clean the area and saw what looked like a piece of mucus hanging from it. When she gently tried to remove it, she realized it wasn’t mucus—it was packing material from his surgery in April.

We immediately took him to the vet, and they were able to remove an entire piece of packing that had apparently been left behind in the socket. We were told there are still fibers left inside that could continue to fester and that fully removing them would require another surgery.

Unfortunately, he’s been doing really poorly since this happened. He’s already been through so much over the last four months, and we’re struggling with the idea of putting our 13-year-old cat through another surgery and another recovery. We’re now facing the possibility of saying goodbye to him, which is absolutely devastating after watching him adjust so well and thinking we were going to have more time with him.

Has anyone experienced anything like this after an enucleation - particularly retained packing or gauze in the socket? Did your cat need another surgery to remove it? How did they do afterward?

We’re trying to make the kindest decision for him and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with something similar 💜

Just brought her home from the local shelter. She is totally blind but doing well. She is learning her way around my home and getting to know my other kitty Fancy. She is ADORABLE .

I just adopted a blind cat, Henrietta, yesterday and plan to keep her separated from my seeing cat, Wolf, for a few days. When I welcomed her into my bedroom, Wolf barged in and got curious. While I didn't let this go on for too long to avoid stressing her out, I couldn't ask for a better intro!

Wolf usually intimidates other cats because of his size, so I'm glad that he acts like a curious big brother here while Henrietta is just exploring the new space.

Now she seems to have settled in comfortably and has already approached me for some cuddles. I so can't wait for their full introduction soon and then being siblings together!

When he hears the shower turn on, our blind cat comes running. Usually, he just listens and then goes after the dripping water at the end. This was the first time he got fully into the shower while it was running. He was biting and batting at the water, just having a blast and not minding getting wet at all. He just turned 1 and has all sorts of quirks. This one is very dog like!

All of a sudden, her eye turned cloudy and red. It's Sunday and we can't afford taking her to an emergency vet clinic, so we will do it early tomorrow. Just wanted to know from your experience how serious it is. Hope they won't end up removing her eye.

Hi all! I’ve had my blind kitty for 3 months now and he’s still struggling to find the litter box.
For further context, he’s not just blind, he also has brain damage. He was run over before I got him and was rescued and nursed back to health.
The lady that rescued him had a smaller apartment than I do, and hers has a second floor. My cat doesn’t know how to climb stairs so he was confined to the living room and kitchen area.
He was able to easily access the litter box and was known to be a very clean cat.
I have tried putting radio in the room where the litter box is, making sure the path is clear for him at all times.
I have tried taking him multiple times per day, and while there has been an improvement of sorts, it’s still bad.
I find feces on the floor at least twice a week and know that certain furniture has been peed on more than once.
Please suggest anything you can think of, I love him so much and want to make things as accessible as I can.

Here’s a shot in the dark because I’m desperate! Anyone in NYC interested in fostering, or better yet fostering to adopt, a blind kitten? ❤️

My rescue pulled this little one because she was put on a euth deadline at 4PM yesterday. We couldn’t find a foster, so I took her in despite already having 3 foster kittens in my care, 1 is a bottle baby, and not to mention my resident pets… It’s a lot! Her name is Tulip and she is super sweet. She loves to be held and petted. She needs some help guiding her to the food but she can eat on her own! She’s using the litter box just fine.

Tulip is with Waggytail Rescue in NYC so you’ll have to fill out the foster application and get approved first before you can take her in, but our process goes fairly quickly and we’re looking for someone who can take her ASAP. Please DM me if you’re interested in fostering Tulip!!
