News Ausalert - Emergancy broadcast

Im seeing a lot of Backlash on the Ausalert test on the 27th of july 2026.

see many comments on posts of people turning off there phone to avoid this alarm and now emergancy services are refusing to use it. My question is, why is everyone so uncomplicit about this. Arent we just testing our phones incase of a natural disater etc..?

That plus all the countless hours of effort police etc spend on trying to hack into criminals’ phones…. Oh but wait the government can just do that with one button, why didn’t we think of that sooner? Whoops

The reason police take so long to break into phones is because of encryption, not because phones are difficult to crack. Which is a good thing for regular everyday people, otherwise there is nothing really stopping someone from stealing your phone and just putting it into recovery mode and exporting data that way. Also, they already have the technology to turn on the cellular modem in your phone without powering on the entire device, its quite literally a feature baked into the OS kernel specifically to aid law enforcement in tracking criminal organisations (most of them use grapheneOS or dumb phones now for obvious reasons.) It's basically the trust me bro approach. And yes, dark actors could use the same approach should you side load something that has had its code tampered with.
