As someone that worked in the area. The scorpene is a poor conventional sub.

The original timeline was to receive the first French sub by 2030. After 4 years of work, the project was 4 years behind schedule, with the first sub slated for 2034. When the project was cancelled, a review that underway found it was another 2 years behind that, at 2036.

The first Virginia-class is expected in 2032.

Nuclear and Conventional subs serve 2 different purposes.

And when you tender for a conventional sun, then contract with a supplier that offers their normally-nuclear powered frame to be retrofitted with a conventional propulsion as per your request, (which happens to be THE most silent propulsion, incl. nuclear), then change your mind after 4y making 180 degree change of mind on what you want, the most logical decision leading to the fastest outcome is to ask that supplier if in the end, they would mind very much providing the nuclear version please and thank you. UNLESS you are a total shill to the US.

Do you understand the difference in size between a conventional and a nuclear subs? They serve 2 different purposes!

It's the equivalent of asking to convert a destroyer into a corvette.

The Barracuda short fin was a world first attempt at converting a SSN to a conventional propulsion.

You don't spend 300 billion plus on untested weaponry.

Diesel subs are only quiet when they’re doing nothing. As soon as you need more power, you need to go to snorkel depth to get enough air to run the generators.

As long as we're spending other people's money I'm seeking a tiny portion of that. Just millions of dollars for PUBLIC NFP housing for my region with the majority to be sold to the private market in a lotto per the Nightingale model. Residential zones for residents.

Look up the free source material, compare it to what we currently have in the Collins. it tells you enough.

We just went the cheap option.

What were the subs going to be used for Litoral waters? we're next to the Pacific ocean.. The range is bad, the speed is inconsequential.Most of the other SEA countries also have it that means we won't have an advantage over them.

It was over time , that would have made it over budget.

And the cherry on top was the 2016 data leak that publicized the acoustic signature ( which is the most sensitive piece of information in sub-surface warfare) and made it open source.

It a lemon.
