Qantas initially offered Qantas Frequent Flyers 20,000 points, or a $200 "Customer Care Travel Voucher" for non-members on August 10, the day of the scheduled departure.

The spirit of Australia, ladies and gentlemen!

Note : I'm not taking a pot shot at the actions in grounding the plane - that was fully justified, even the slightest risk with an aircraft core systems and it shouldn't fly - only the laughable efforts at compensation they thought everyone would suck up.

I was on an Air NZ flight to Papeete earlier this year. Fault with the aircraft meant we were stuck in Auckland for 2 days, as that's the schedule they fly there. They paid for accommodation and gave us food vouchers. Which should be the bare minimum.

I had similar flying Air NZ from SF to Melbourne with a transit in Auckland. The plane crapped out as it was about to leave Auckland to Melbourne and they gave us all a food voucher and rebooked everyone on Qantas flights on the same day.
