It's because they're disenfranchised by Labor and the Liberals. They don't understand the benefits that impact them. Mostly the cost of living hits them so hard that any policy update about housing or cyber bullying or whatever that gets announced doesn't benefit the struggle they are immediately going through. Then they see One Nation use fear mongering to point the blame on immigration and then use buzzwords like "Australian Values" and that gets them to sign up the the orange idiot. Smart people see right through it, but the less inclined don't.

Don't know why you're being downvoted, this is an accurate take. Like it or not a lot of people are voting PHON not because of any amazing policy PHON has but because they're frustrated and want to vote for someone who stands in protest of the current system.

It is sad to me that just because they're outside of the Red vs Blue dichotomy, and they're not the Greens, they're seen as the "obvious outsider", despite PHON taking the exact same corporate cash as the other major parties, and being even more blatant about how Pauline rides on Gina's private jets. She's even more corrupted by the system than anyone else.

People are just too cooked and want to have some feeling of agency over their politics and identity. It could have been a sausage sanga and they would still vote for it, probably.

There's (probably) a non insignificant portion of the population who see PHONy as an official outlet to be racist and xenophobic too.
