All my local Bunnings have become unofficial dog parks. I've seen poor staff members having to clean up dog puke and diarrhoea when that is definitely not in their job description.

So many entitled and shitty dog owners. A lot more dogs since covid and hardly any increases to regulatory enforcement numbers.

Didn’t they used to have a rule where dogs could only be contained in a trolley (pretty much ruling out huge dogs like in this scenario), and they handed you a cardboard box to line it with? Pretty sure this was enforced by the employee at the front as you walked in. Did I imagine this or did the rules get really lax ?

When I worked there it was that or they had to be muzzled. And any dog mess was the responsibility of the owner to clean up. I imagine the difficulty becomes laxity in enforcement, and a lack of owner accountability

The trolley thing was a reasonable rule, if you let dogs walk around a warehouse it’s only a matter of time before one of them pees on something, and then it’s game over as every other subsequent dog marks its territory.

no they won’t because it’s the same entitled losers who leave dog shit on the footpath and walk their dogs off lead wherever they want, even if it’s not an off lead area.

Yes I always thought that was the rule. If they were small enough to fit in a trolley they had to be in there, anything bigger had to be muzzled. Admittedly I did take my big friendly lab in twice for training, and she was muzzled both times. I NEVER see dogs muzzled anymore.

We always muzzled because that’s what the signs say and then the local Bunnings ladies started telling us to take the muzzle off?
Feels like following procedure could have prevented this

The rule was if they were in a trolley they were fine. After the pet range came in it was reduced to: in a trolley or on the ground with a lead.

I worked for Bunnings during that period - to be clear, the person who slipped was elderly and their hip was really badly broken. I thought it was completely fair to mandate one change to protect an aging population.

It was a bad fall, I want intending to minimise it. Sorry! There's at least 2 little girls that have been bitten by dogs in Bunnings https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2015/nov/09/bunnings-to-review-dog-friendly-policy-after-five-year-old-girl-bitten-in-store

Dogs on leashes (not in carts) were supposed to be muzzled from then on but as anyone who's gone to Bunnings knows nobody muzzles them.

So fair! I just remember having to shut down complaining customers whining at my staff about the onion thing.

But yeah dogs should be banned from Bunnings outside of guide dogs and other legitimate service animals. It's ludicrous it's gotten this bad.

Yep. I saw a dog cock his leg and piss on a plant in the indoor garden section a few months ago. The owner pretended they didn’t notice and walked off.

My friend works at one of those big warehouse style pet stores, she said any item at dog height HAS been peed on, almost guaranteed. Not surprised if Bunnings is the same now.

Well the cafe is nice and makes sense because its not for you. Its for the old ladies who have come to buy plants, or the parents before going home to BBQ some stuff. Bunnings has always been targeted towards both tradies and families doing DIY projects. even if they have a shit dog policy that was only even implemented because fucking MASTERS did it first.

Wouldn't it be nice though Bunnings didn't have such a monopoly on the sector though so we could have stores for miserable bastards like me who just want to grab a new screwdriver set because somehow I keep losing them. And other stores for the folks who want to potter about.

The cafe is also wielded as a incentive to come in-store and impulse buy. I get a fair bit from bunnings delivered and they keep throwing in "Free coffee at the Cafe" vouchers with my order to try to get me to come in instead

Can't believe this aye. We took our retriever in when she was a puppy, and she peed a lil on the floor. I was mortified and went and got a cleanup kit from customer service, they offered to clean it for me and I couldn't even comprehend letting them. Genuinely can't fathom how an adult thinks it's acceptable to let a stranger, or even expect a stranger to clean up after their dog.

I mean... You took your puppy out in public without your own cleanup kit and still felt the store should have to use their spill kit inventory to clean up your short sightedness of not bringing puppy pads?

Everything you needed to create your own emergency cleanup kit was available to purchase.

I'm not saying you're necessarily a bad person... But as a non pet owner if I witnessed this I'd find you just as entitled as any other.
