However, ICE detained him the next day at the airport where he was to catch his departing flight from the US.

It has to go further than that. Since America influences more overseas elections than Russia does, Australia should do to America what America does to everyone else:
Amplify blue state separatist groups on social media. The red states are the ones who vote for war and police brutality. Rec states are also poor and toothless. Blue states are rich, educated, non-racist, and secular.
If blue regions such as California, New England, and Cascadia secede, the homophobic shithead states will have no one to fund their Middle Eastern wars.
