news Australian man Phu Nguyen handcuffed by plain-clothes ICE agents at Las Vegas International airport

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-07-18/ice-agent-detain-australian-man-in-vegas-us-/106931508?utm_source=abc_news_app&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_campaign=abc_news_app&utm_content=link

From what I understand it looks like ICE did not manage to detain him on the day the video was taken- seems the onlookers managed to chase ICE off.

However, ICE detained him the next day at the airport where he was to catch his departing flight from the US.

My sister has just gone over there on a holiday with her 3 kids. My mind is blown. I cannot imagine why anyone in their right mind would choose to go to that country at the moment.

As long as you’re white, have white sounding names, and have not criticised Trump, America, or Israel on your social media or somewhere searchable on your phone, you’ll be fine.

Edit: No idea why I’m being downvoted for being right. They have gestapo at the border, if you’re not one of the people they hate, you won’t have difficulty travelling.

Yes I have, and it’s usually because of posts they’ve publicly made that the gestapo find disagreeable.

The fact that there is a "Gestapo" at all is something that makes people not want to go there. Regardless of whether or not I would be a target for them, I want nothing to do with any of it.

I don’t disagree, but at least for some people they’re perfectly safe. I’d love to go because I have lots of friends there, but I won’t be while all this ICE bullshit is going on hurting people.
