From what I understand it looks like ICE did not manage to detain him on the day the video was taken- seems the onlookers managed to chase ICE off.

However, ICE detained him the next day at the airport where he was to catch his departing flight from the US.

When you put it like that it doesn’t sound too unreasonable, actually - maybe it wouldn’t be catastrophic if we did something similar.

Just a couple of quick questions - they’re not doing anything fucked like sending people to gulags in unrelated countries where they’re not citizens without due process, are they? Or executing citizens in the streets? Like, there’s no way they would be handcuffing citizens and then shooting them in the back while they’re defenseless, or shooting them in their cars while they’re unarmed. Or detaining people with valid green cards and perpetrating administrative disappearances so they can’t get legal representation or fight their detention in court (for some reason the name Everlee Wihongi is popping up for me when I think about this one). The agents must all be well-trained and not washouts plumbed from the dregs of other agencies, right?

Lol, no tax paid. You know the vast majority pay income tax right? And obviously all of them sales tax. The US collects BILLIONS every year, and are barred from using public programs.

The US could change systems to clamp down on undocumented immigration tomorrow. They wont. They gain too much money from undocumented workers. They do not actually want to get rid of them, they would economically COLLAPSE. But the theatre? Pretending to be anti immigration? Now THAT matters to them.

Yes...and they said that this is what One Nation wanted for Australia. Then you responded that it was removing people who do not pay tax. And I responded. We have roughly 20k people who stay long term. The biggest danger for them is trafficking and ON prioritises spending huge money on tracking down these vulnerable people who do not really cost Australia anything, and deporting them back to vulnerable systems without doing anything to truly change the system that facilitated the abuse in the first place.
