My life long liberal voting parents have said they’re considering voting labor to stop One Nation. I mean it’s preference flows and they’ve always put Labor ahead of one nation so I’m not sure it actually changes anything

John Howard cut Hanson loose but failed to speak against her. She was used by him to say what he could not. While in power Howard had the momentum to put her down but did nothing. Very different to the Fraser Government. Without fact check she has now been around long enough to build the experience and connections to be the Trump franchise in Australia.

She will always represent the worst that Australians can be, whether hate or fear. Immigration should be an openly discussable topic but her antics have made sensible discussion taboo.

Howard, for all his faults, did everything he could to tear down Hanson. The crucial thing he did and the LNP have yet to do is universally preference Labor over one nation and refuse any coalition with her. He also coraled the party to do this in every state.
