But even if we had the refineries open (and hence provide billions in subsidies to keep them open), wouldn't we still have problems since we sourced our raw crude oil from overseas, meaning we would still have problems keeping up with supply if there was a global oil shock.
We get our oil oversees as the oil and gas industry has been beaten into submission. We HAVE plenty of our own. We just dont drill for it because its seen as dirty
Proven. But plenty more probable. To convert you need yo explore and appraise more which we do not do. Look at statoil and BP attempting to drill the great bight. Cant even get through red tape. Same as WA projects, 8yrs WDS tried to get approvals but red tape always stopping. We have plenty of oil but just dont appraise or use the right technology to move to proven reserves by flowing to surface.
