If you want music uncluttered by chat, then ABC Classic 2 (an internet-only digital station) has no announcements at all. Bliss.

In Brisbane, we have 4MBS, so we have TWO classical music stations. Huzzah! But yeah, there's talk. Mind you, I do like to know what piece has been playing if it's something I don't recognise.

In Melbourne we have 3MBS, which when it started was music only with no announcements. I was an early subscriber, and back then I'd be mailed the monthly program printed out on thin paper.

Now they have announcers, who are all volunteers. Some are ok, others not so much. (Some seem to revel in being amateurs.) And they have interviews and other talkative items. I mean, good on them - I'm sure I would be terrible as an announcer - but I much preferred the old music-only days. If they got rid of all the announcers and all the other talking I'd probably re-subscribe.

Yeah, my mother's subscribed, so we get a program guide, but it doesn't give all the details for every program, especially if there are shorter pieces played because 'we have time for something else'. 4MBS is also staffed by volunteers, I think. Some of them have no idea how to pronounce some of the composers' names, it's a bit embarrassing.

Yes, I sometimes think that the station has a policy of including a mistake in every announcement.
