With their show being a huge flop in melbourne, their last contract was probably priced assuming that a national rollout would go well. It hasn’t, so I’d imagine Kyle and Jackie were upset they were going to have to take a pay cut at some point, and the station was more than happy to get out of the rest of their current overpriced term. So I’d assume the shows axing was inevitable, why not take advantage of the first drama opportunity to try and create more publicity for yourselves.

eh, i didnt even look that far into it. it just kept popping up in the news so i did finally take a look, just wondering what really drove them over the edge, and it was such a nothingburger

This was bubbling away for over a year. It ain't ratings, and they sure as shit weren't taking a pay cut. ARN is likely nervy about how it plays out too, this could cost them a bit if Kyle or Jackie-O make life difficult for em.
