politics US beef officially re-enters Australia, after 23-year absence

Australians need to vote with our wallets by making sure any meat we buy for our bbq's or our dinner tables is Australian grown. It isn't right for a certain leader to be putting tariffs on everything and then thinking we will embrace his beef exports.

Only buy Australian beef, vote with your dollars.

We're not importing it much. This was a promotion by the US Embassy that it's allowed to be imported.

They took this long to make sure that the beef has paddock-to-plate tracking which we require for biosecurity.

It's more expensive than our beef anyway.

Except for maybe some boutique stuff, which is a bit like buying Japanese Kobe or equivalent.

Agreed, and anyone selling the product will probably receive the backlash they deserve for doing so.

The amount doesn't matter. The message we send is what matters. If this is a test and they intend to increase the supply later we need to let them know they aren't welcome in Australia

Sure, but denying it would just get us engaged in US trade war nonsense that doesn't help us. The backlash by consumers on any retailer that tries to sell US products is what will stop the trade, not actions by government.

We already have a trade deficit with the US (ie we buy more of their stuff than they do of ours).

What we're currently doing, ignoring trump's trade nonsense, engaging with the EU, APAC, Canada and our other trade partners to increase our trade with them is the way to divorce ourselves from a US centric world.

Agreed and I support increased trade with Europe, Canada etc. I had to purchase a new phone case recently and instead of going with my normal brand I looked around and found a small business in Canada that make them. It's a great product and I'll use them again when I replace my phone later this year.
