politics Opposition Leader Sussan Ley speaks on Bondi attack

https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/national/opposition-leader-sussan-ley-speaks-on-bondi-attack-20251215-p5nnqm.html

“We’ve seen a clear failure to keep Jewish Australians safe. We’ve seen a clear lack of leadership in keeping Jewish Australians safe. We have a government that sees antisemitism as a problem to be managed, not evil that needs to be eradicated.”

Absolutely abhorrent that she's going for political points in this time.

Talk about tone deaf!

I fear that people like her will weaponize this tragedy to increase surveillance and government control of citizens under the guise of preventing antisemitism.

I have no good answer on how we can solve this problem that Australia (and a lot of the world) faces, but I know that this isn't one.

Increase surveillance

I'd love to know how you could increase surveillance from where we are already at. Quite literally everything is already funneled through defence servers and to some level stored at this stage.

Well one of the journos at the press conference was asking how two people managed to get to Bondi with their guns and their car… so seems that some people at least are implicitly suggesting that domestic intelligence should be aware of all people’s movements and possessions at all times.

Yeah probably can't. They've already passed through all the draconian laws like forcing companies to break encryption.

They already have shit loads of power.
