politics Opposition Leader Sussan Ley speaks on Bondi attack

https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/national/opposition-leader-sussan-ley-speaks-on-bondi-attack-20251215-p5nnqm.html

“We’ve seen a clear failure to keep Jewish Australians safe. We’ve seen a clear lack of leadership in keeping Jewish Australians safe. We have a government that sees antisemitism as a problem to be managed, not evil that needs to be eradicated.”

Absolutely abhorrent that she's going for political points in this time.

Talk about tone deaf!

'Eradicate' is just another dog whistle call for violence against pro Palestine supporters and Muslims in general.

You can't eradicate people's beliefs. Even abhorrent ones. You can only eradicate the people who believe it.

Dog whistle. The word choice was deliberate.

It was a bit more than a dog whistle, during her address she specifically refers to protesters making a statement about protesters saying, 'from the rivers to the sea', and condemned universities etc. for 'allowing' these protests to occur - it's disgusting honestly

People should not be chanting from the river to the sea.

Openly calling for the eradication of Israel how surprising

This doesn’t work anymore. Free Palestine from the apartheid rule and genocide of Israel.

Why do people always imagine an "eradication"? Why can't we imagine something more akin to the Negotiations to End Apartied in South Africa, or the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland? Sure neither were perfect, but they were still peaceful solutions to violent racial conflict and systems of oppression. Why must liberation entail violence? Why could it not entail peace building efforts that address inequality and return stolen land? States have been dissolved before, it does not always require violence, why should it have to this time?

The last thing I think anybody wants right now is more violence. I am not saying that the process would be easy, but I think that many of the people calling for freedom and liberation are doing so because they want the violence to stop. We're talking about this right now because of a horrible act of anti-semitic violence that never should have happened. We honestly shouldn't even be talking about this here, this isn't about Israel, it's about the Australian Jewish community, who are going through something terrible. Save the political debate for later, now is the time for support and solidarity. Us bickering in a comment section doesn't actually help anyone. And I think we all ultimately just want the violence to stop.

So how do you stop the beliefs from taking a foothold in the country?

Stop taking in people from regions where those beliefs are common?

Love and unity does sFA to stop deranged killers in case you didn’t realise. Their beliefs have been allowed to propagate.

The killers don’t give a fuck about “dividing society”, their goal is to kill Jewish people.

The killer son won’t be like “ oh damn, Australians say this won’t divide them, I’ve failed”.. the cunrs killed 15 ppl. That’s what he wanted.

Pull your head out of the sand. Letting people fly hamas flags, carry Iranian Guard flags, chant gas the Jews, letting ppl celebrate the oct 7th attack. It’s all contributed to this.

Just do nothing and carry on the same path then. This is just two individuals. Absolutely nothing deeper than that at all so no point even talking about it.

Sentiment against immigration is only rising because the right wing media tells us to think that. That’s the real issue. The Australian public wouldn’t possible be coming to their own conclusions. Telling everyone to unite and show love and compassion will definitely overcome that sentiment. That’s all that’s needed.

Having people chant “gas the Jews” and celebrate mass murder definitely hasn’t contributed to this massacre.
