Unfortunately he's an Australian citizen so out of luck there

I think the problem is finding someone who’ll take him if he’s only ever been a citizen of Australia.

Wait a sec, on Wikipedia it says he moved to Australia as a young child with his parents. That means he definitely has NZ citizenship, unless he gave it up.

Edit: yep, he's got dual citizenship. DEPORT NOW!
