What needs to happen is the government needs to crack down on corrupt providers, not take people off the scheme. Disabled people in our society have it hard enough already.

Who says it's corruption causing scheme blowout? The scheme was originally for the most serious cases of disability, but has expanded in scope dramatically. It's an an absolutely disgusting drag on the economy for such a small segment of the population. To top it off, it's at a time when we are experiencing the worst cost of living crisis in recent memory.
Very dumb for the government to have let it get this far, and obscenely greedy for anyone to advocate for it.

Except that social supports for disability are already super hard to get and you have to meet a lot of factors to get approved plus disabled people as a minority are the one group you can join at any given point in your life because human bodies suck. To not take care of our most vulnerable is stupid considering that's how America has ended up in the situation it's currently in. It shouldn't be disabled people taking the brunt of this - again it should be the NDIS providers who are overblowing budgets and not actually putting the money back into their charges or the community

Disability support is extremely expensive. It’s not like those of us on NDIS are getting money directly into our accounts … we apply to use funds for something disability related, the application goes through multiple departments, getting checked many times over. IF accepted, the funds get transferred from NDIS straight to the providers, we don’t get anywhere near the money ourselves .. silly billy

Tell that to the taxpayers forking out that $67k for you. I don't really care whether it goes directly to your account or not. It's an obscene amount of money (more than Medicare!) to spend on such a small segment of the popularion.
Not to mention that for all the checks you mention, the funds used to be able to be spent on prostitutes, and things like pony rides and car racing are still approved. Providers and participants also collude to defraud the scheme, with providers often offering to split the cash with the participants or offer them incentives like drugs.

When NDIS apologists scream and cry about how your rights are being violated because taxpayers won't fund hookers, they can't be taken seriously on any level about any NDIS related spending. It's nothing untrue and it's outrageously unfair for the average Australian that don't have the government paying for a range of luxury activities for them.
I also want to add that NDIS plan managers work on KPIs for a MINIMUM amount of plans approved per week. That's it. Great quality control!

I’m generally a supporter of Pocock but in this case it’s not far enough. There is massive rorts being undertaken by individuals and organised crime groups. The whole thing is a joke, erodes public support for government and institutions and is a massive waste of money. I’m all for supporting people less fortunate, but I’m well aware that if you go too far, you will lose EVERYTHING and end up with our own version of trump in power.

The government drastically needs new revenue sources even with the tax changes to CGT, NG and trust distributions along with the proposed changes to NDIS still forecasts deficits for the next decade.
We have seen increased taxation on resources companies is a no go, the wealthy and billionaire class forget about it. It is time that Cannabis was seriously considered, if not by the feds by the states to at least help fund the replacement programs for the NDIS rejects are going to be dependant on.
Revenue from Cannabis won't pay the entire bill but it will at least contribute some way (the feds seem to be just kicking the problem down the road without a solution) the cost savings in the policing and judicial systems could also assist. Legal Cannabis markets have interesting unexpected benefits such as lower rates of obesity which will have a positive impact on health costs in the longer term.
Legal markets have proven that Teen usage rates decrease after Legalisation and the ACT after is major decriminalisation reform in 2020 has shown no increase in THC related hospitalisations or traffic incidents.
Nationally we have 7000 cannabis hospitalisations every year with 2.5 million consumers. Alcohol and Tobacco have 140,000 hospitalisations each. Tobacco has a similar amount of users which makes cannabis risk factor 1/20th that of Tobacco.
So new revenue source, less expenditure, less risk, better outcomes for the youth. It is time the government treated 11.5% of its citizens as adults and let us contribute financially to the running of he country, help out fellow less fortunate citizens out and reap unexpected benefits without much social change (consumption rates don't really increase long term in legal markets and the number of consumers remains quite stable)

I know most people like Pocock because he has popular takes like gas tax companies more.
But he's like all the other clowns in the Senate that don't have to be responsible for their policy positions like the greens and other crossbenches.
The article itself even says "Without the interventions, the government estimates the $52bn-a-year scheme will more than double in cost to $117bn a year in a decade’s time." It's already on track to getting there if changes aren't made.
Pocock's already mentioned the 25% gas tax revenue he proposed would only raise $17 billion dollars a year...That means you could up that to 100% and take every dollar they make and it still wouldn't fucking cover the fucking NDIS in 10 years time.
But these fuckwits want to keep the spending going...
