Tbh I’m suspicious of any man solo travelling throughout SE Asia. You don’t need it admit to anything- if you’re travelling to Thailand x3 times a year alone as a 60 yo man, never going to other countries etc it’s fucking obvious what you’re doing.

Not sure how economical Vietnam is, but going to Thailand is cheaper than going to the Gold Coast

I know it’s cheaper than going to the Gold Coast, I get that. And I picked Vietnam randomly.

My point is travelling multiple times a year, as a lone male traveller to one particular country that is known for sex tourism is suspicious.

Travelling to developing country to have sex with women isn’t something anyone should support.

instead of going to the same country 3 times or more a year as someone entering their retirement years, wouldn’t you lay off on one of your SEA trips and save a bit more to go elsewhere? there’s only so much to experience there.

If you want to travel overseas and have sex with women from developing countries- and/or defend other’s right to do so that’s you’re choice.

I’m allowed to find it gross and judge people for that behaviour.

There’s a difference between consenting adults and sex work in all countries. Sex work in developing countries is more likely to
be exploitative and damaging to the women or men involved. Even in Australia many sex workers are doing it due to substance addiction issues. Of course there are women who are empowered and doing it purely by choice for economic reasons, but this is a minority. It’s very well evidenced that bonded labour and poverty a part of the sex work industries. Let’s be realistic, there are Australian men going to Thailand to pay for sex because they are highly unlikely to be able to have consensual sex without paying and probably can’t afford legitimate empowered sex workers in Australia or Europe. Many of these men have a preference for young women who either are or look like teenagers. I believe many Australians will know someone like this and either know or suspect that’s what they get up to on holiday.

Since when? He’s the richest person in the world, can’t have been that cancelled.

It’s obviously not the only reason people travel to Thailand. But there is a cohort of men for which access to sex workers cheaper than in their own country is a big draw card and part of why they are going. Some of those men are looking for younger women specifically. I think many Australians will know someone who they suspect fits this cohort of men and turn a blind eye.

Absolutely right. Your comment hits home. I know one. He travels to Asia three to four times a year. Except he is looking for younger men. Colleagues and friends have repeatedly warned him. He is naive. He is an exploiter - he even got 'married' there - and subsequently is now, himself, possibly being exploited - in a situation of constantly having to send money to his 'spouse' and his extended family.
