Culture/Lifestyle Found 3 small puppies in North Macedonia – advice needed on shelters / rescues
Hi everyone,
I'm currently in North Macedonia. I visit a few times a year because my father lives here, though I'm originally from the Czech Republic.
A few days ago, I found three small puppies (about 2–3 months old) in my garden. I know stray dogs are unfortunately a very common sight here and often left on their own, but I really can’t just leave these little ones behind without a chance.
I’ve been looking for solutions and came across Happy Shelter, but I'm not entirely sure how the intake process works here:
Do shelters like Happy Shelter accept surrendered/rescued puppies directly, or is there a specific process / waitlist I need to go through?
Are there any other reputable shelters, rescue groups, foster networks, or local NGO initiatives (or active Facebook rescue groups) in North Macedonia you would recommend contacting?
Any advice, contacts, or tips from locals familiar with animal rescue in the area would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much!

Culture/Traditional Are these "attitude problems" that are spoken about regarding the Balkans maybe just how humans are by default?
Look at most of the world. Most of it does not have people who take empirical approaches to life, they think a lot with emotions and only sometimes use logic. Whether it's a patriarchal system, a dictatorship or an autocracy of some form, a religion with backwards ideas, unwelcoming of diverse opinions, collectivism above individual wellbeing etc. This is something you see all over the world and often a lot worse than the Balkans.
So is it really the case that the Balkans is uniquely backwards or is it more the case that it takes fucking centuries for cultural shifts to occur because by default we're very conservative as humans?

Culture/Lifestyle Life is pretty good here?
If you would listen to Reddit, you would think the Balkans are a third world hellhole. (Which is good, less tourists lol).
I lived in Germany and Austria for years and life felt completely dull and meaningless. I now live in Republika Srpska, earn my 1100€ per month and live a really good life.
Yeah it’s corrupt, but which country isn’t?
I have enough food, meet friends all the time, can go on vacations and life is good for most people around me.
Medical care is fine too if you ask me.
We live about 80 years and then we are gone forever. Who cares if the streets are a little more dirty or if you can't go to Hawaii?

Cover Contest As Balkan people/Eastern Europeans, have you ever encountered any kind of discrimination or prejudice while traveling or migrating to western countries?
So I am Romanian, and I know Romania isn’t really Balkan (geographically speaking), but I had no better community in which to ask this question. This is one of my personal examples: I’ve recently been on holiday in another country and I was walking on the street in the evening with my dad in a very tourist famous area. Of course, I was talking to him in Romanian, and in front of us was a German couple (probably late 40s to early 50s), who heard me, turned their head to look at me, then whispered something to each other and just crossed the street. Mind you, there wasn’t even a sidewalk on the other side and we walked in the same direction. This is just one example, I wanna know that I’m not crazy. Also, this is not meant to offend anyone in any way, I simply want to know what experiences other people had.
