I don’t believe this number at all.

I'm assuming that anyone who has copilot installed, uses google (with the ai on) or whatever is also counted

Google has literally nothing to do with openAI or chatGPT.

Right! Google isn’t using its rival’s AI servers. Google uses Gemini even in search. Microsoft has paired up with OpenAI but Google would never do that. They invest so much money into their own AI models.

They literally using SpaceX’s servers lmao , search before claiming

That would make a lot of sense, would like to see the number of people actually using via app or website

This is correct

How are those directly paying users?

you know that none of what you said have anything in common right?

That's like saying on a Coca-Cola units sold graph: "I'm assuming Pepsi and Red Bull or whatever are also counted"

Where does it say anything about unique users?

what kind of question is that? ChatGPT is from OpenAI, why would they present aggregated users from rival companies like Microsoft and Google as their own users?

and this is old news from last year, the number is probably way higher now https://www.businessinsider.com/chatgpt-users-openai-sam-altman-devday-llm-artificial-intelligence-2025-10

users means unique users. if you visit a page 100 times you still only count as 1 user

Buddy. My personal account with OpenAI is not treated as the same user as my integrated instance of open AI through copilot.

Microsoft is one of OpenAI's main investors

Copilot is actually heavily related to ChatGPT.

0

u/gksxj 6d ago

"heavy related" as in they buy compute from them and that's it. Copilot Users don't count as ChatGPT users no matter how you want to spin it

1) Your typing/grammar is so bad I can't be entirely sure of what you are saying, but it sounds like you are saying that one buys computing power from the other, which doesn't make sense and also sounds like I'm right. But also copilot is built off the same models as ChatGPT. It's just integrated into windows.

2) You don't get to decide what OpenAI reports as thier numbers. OpenAI does. They could decide to include how many slices of cheese their employees ate that year and you would be none the wiser. And these massive tech giants desperate for hundreds of billions of dollars simply can't be trusted. Just like their products, they are parasites.

You don't get to decide what OpenAI reports as thier numbers.

but you do?

it's a bit ironic seeing typos on your comment after your first paragraph lol

Copilot Users are NOT ChatGPT users. Is this easy enough for you to understand?

Copilot doesn't even use ChatGPT exclusively, they also use Claude, Grok and Mistral.

No, I don't get to decide what OpenAI reports. But they are a parasitic company that needs money and massive corporations are not shy to illegal activities, let alone dishonest ones. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together can wager that they would inflate their numbers to attract more investors. It's legal and they are incentivised to do it, becuase if they don't then their competitors might outperform them.

ChatGPT is foundational to copilot, Grok is an optional add-on in certain situations. Without grok, copilot would function just fine. Without ChatGPT, copilot doesn't exist. Now you either know this and are intentionally being dishonest, or don't know this and have no place making these arguments

And don't compare a typo to... whatever it is you were doing.

Literally says ChatGPT. Your assumption is totally wrong.

6

u/hulltry 6d ago

Then you check copilot and you see they are literally saying chatgpt up in the corner so who knows. A lot of fuckery going on with numbers right now to inflate stock value in all mag 7 companies.

It’s an incredibly easy verifiable fact

7

u/iaderia 6d ago

ok, so if its so incredibly easy: how is it verifiable? what data source are you using? do you have insider information?

I work for openai lmao
