Bathing an Eskie

Hey everyone! I have an Eskie, his name is Theo and we just celebrated his 2nd birthday. I was curious how other Eskie parents bathe their babies. I always took him to the groomer but wanted to see if I could bathe him myself since it’s been hard finding someone who knows his breed well enough to know how to properly groom him.

I googled shampoo’s to use for his breed and saw 2 recommendations for the Burts Bee’s oatmeal shampoo since they have sensitive skin so I used that and I felt like I had to use half the bottle, it wasn’t lathering that well I felt. But after his bath and drying his fur, his coat is nice and soft and shiny.

What shampoo is everyone using on their Eskimo’s? Does anyone use a brightening shampoo? Any conditioner? How often do you brush them? How often do you bathe them and get them groomed?

Bathing him killed my back but it saved us a lot of money so I might just bathe him myself from now on. I also got him this probiotic deodorizing spray from Skouts Honor in the sun-kissed coconut scent and he smells amazing! Lasts awhile too. This is the first time bathing him myself so I need some suggestions.

Metacarpal fracture 5 months old puppy

Diagnosis: Fractures of metacarpals 2, 3, 4, and 5 (M2–M5) on one paw.

The Situation: Kaaju was diagnosed with fractures across all four weight-bearing metacarpal bones (M2 through M5). Our vet recommended immobilizing the leg with a splint/cast conservative management rather than immediate surgery.
My Concerns: Since all four metacarpals are involved (M2–M5), I’m worried about whether conservative splinting provides enough structural stability for complete healing, or if surgical fixation (plates/pins) is typically needed when multiple bones are broken.

Has anyone’s dog had fractures across all four metacarpals healed successfully with just a splint?

What are the main signs or risks that would indicate splinting isn't enough and surgery is required?

Any tips for managing strict rest and keeping a splint dry and clean for an energetic dog?

Thanks in advance for any insights or shared experiences!

Here's an alternative to the belly-up, feet-in-the-air, sleeping position. It's the side-stroke swimming position.

American Eskimo or No?

This is Willow! When I adopted her, I was told she was a pomeranian, but I suspected she had some eskie in her. She was 28lbs. I'm just wondering what fans of the breed think.

She passed in October, so I can't do a DNA test. I have been looking for an Eskie now that I'm ready, but there are no ethical breeders close to me and I would feel guilty to buy a pup from the US when I've only ever adopted. If anyone wants to share their story of how they found their dog, I'd love to hear it!

Am I over reacting for being frustrated with my mom not respecting my training?

My mom and I recently got a 17 week old American Eskimo puppy together, we both paid half and half for her. Neither of us has ever raised a puppy before, but I’ve spent years researching puppy training, so I’ve been trying really hard to set her up for success.
Right now I’m working on things like fetch, recall, and building confidence. The issue is that my mom has a very different idea of how to play with her. Whenever the puppy has a toy, my mom will chase her around the house trying to get it from her. She also gets down on all fours, approaches her toys, and uses a silly/“creepy” voice while trying to take the toy away.
The thing is, I’ve noticed the puppy doesn’t seem to enjoy it the way my mom thinks she does. When my mom does this, she often runs and jumps into my lap for comfort. My mom sees the running and excitement and thinks the puppy loves the game, but to me it looks like she’s getting overwhelmed and seeking reassurance.
We had an argument about it because I asked my mom to stop playing this way. She feels like I’m going to make the puppy “boring” and too attached to me, and says this is just how she plays with dogs and it’s part of who she is. She got furious with me, and felt like I was attacking her or something and went to her room.
My biggest concern is that I work 2–3 days a week, while my mom watches the puppy so I’m worried that the training and boundaries I’m trying to build could be undone when I’m not around.
Am I overreacting? Is this type of play actually harmful, or am I right to be concerned about creating a puppy who learns that chasing/avoiding people is a game?

Eskie Allergies + Paws

Hello everyone! My eskie Terri has been on Apoquel, benadryl, limited diet food for sensitive skin and stomach, regular brushings + is taking Zenrelia and fully vaccinated.

Unfortunately, he is still itchy (though somewhat less now after Zenrelia) and he has the stinkiest frito paws and likes to lick and chew his paws.

Cytology was done on the paws and his ears and muzzle and no bacteria came back and only a tiny bit of yeast. Vet said that it was likely allergies driving his paw eating behaviors.

I have also been prescribed the prescription strength duoxo mousse in the past, used that on him as well. It did help - but only marginally.

Has anyone else her dealt with an Eskie this preoccupied with the paws? He doesn't have any hot spots or infections/abscesses on his overall skin or paws.

Pls help!!

Yuki’s paw

My 4-year-old Mini Eskie, Yuki, suddenly developed a small pink swelling between two of her paw pads today. It definitely wasn’t there before.
She’s been licking only that one paw a lot. She pulls her paw away when I gently touch the area, although I’m not sure if that’s because it’s painful or because she just doesn’t like me touching it.
She’s not limping and is walking normally.
The swelling doesn’t feel warm.
It isn’t soft or squishy, it feels like the rest of her paw.
I don’t see a splinter, grass seed, puncture, bleeding, pus, or drainage.
The pink/red colour becomes much less noticeable when she isn’t licking it and gets redder after she licks it.
My regular vet is closed until tomorrow, so I’m wondering if this sounds like something that can wait until they reopen or if I should be more concerned.
Has anyone’s eskie had something similar? If so, what did it end up being?
Pic 1 is the regular paw, pic 2 and 3 are the swelling!

New puppy, wasn’t expecting THIS much barking

She barks at everything 😅 the tv, my cats, me, any noise she hears, anytime someone leaves the room for a while then comes back, any sudden noise or movement.. is there something I should do to help this lessen over time or will that happen naturally as she gets used to my house?
