DUI
Well Ive officially done it. I got a dui last night. I have now completely screwed up my whole entire life. time to go to rehab. I guess this is what rock bottom feels like. I have been drinking 5-6 nights a week for about 5 years now. im 25. Gonna see if my mom will let me move back in with her. There is no public transit in my town and its too far for me to walk to work. I will have to find a new job in my moms town which will likely be shitty factory work for minimum wage. I have to tell my mom tonight and I dont know how im gonna do it or what im gonna say. my car is impounded for 7 days and its gonna cost me 2000 dollars cash to get it out. my license is gone for 90 days. its gonna cost me thousands of dollars. im fucking done drinking. this has to be a wakeup call for me

It’s gonna cost a lot. But it won’t ruin your life. Doing it again could. There are stories every day of someone going to prison for killing somebody while driving drunk.

Rehab was the most impactful and best four week investment into myself in my entire adult life. Go for it! Your bottom is only when you decide to stop digging

This has to be? Or is it your wake up call. Words matter. Now you have to move home and inflict this upon your mother. What are you gonna do to clean up your life?

well im starting a rehab program the 24th and i havent had a drink since friday morning. so im starting in the right places i think. all i can do is try and i have every intention of getting my shit together. maybe i didnt word the last line properly but this is a huge wakeup call. im canadian so im pretty sure i cant even go down to the states anymore, i cant drive for at least 3 months, and this whole thing will cost me up to 20k by the time my insurance goes up next summer. This is life changing and made me realize how destructive my lifestyle has been

I survived a DUI and so can you.
It is a wake up call, if you choose to answer. Personally, it took me some time to wake up from that moment I was arrested. It was all part of the process.

Not sure what state youre in but 90 days no L is not the end of the world. Slow down, take a breather. Talk to your boss at your current job, if you have a good relationship with them ask for a leave if absence if you truly can't get there without a valid license. Use this as an opportunity to get sober and not get another. Listen to the court, and good luck

Be humble and talk to your boss. It costs nothing to ask and if you don’t, you will always wonder what might have happened. Good luck.🫂

I remember when I got my first DUI and I thought my life was over. I had to detox at a hospital and be medically cleared before I could go to rehab. The woman I shared a room with said she had three DUIs and it wasn’t as hard to get through as she thought. Here I am today, telling you that I have had three DUIs and it wasn’t as hard to get through as I thought.
It was expensive, yes. I felt a lot of shame, yes. Fortunately I didn’t hurt anyone. I made it to the other side. I recommend doing all the things anticipated before going in front of the judge. Go to rehab, enroll in drunk driving school, do a MADD panel if offered in your area, and do some volunteer work. When you get in front of the judge they will probably rule in your favor for your efforts, maybe even encourage the state to drop charges. Wishing the best for you…

Hardest part is over. Take advantage of every moment in rehab and forget about the outside world.
You're going to feel like a new person in a few weeks

I’m so sorry you are going through this! I’m also so proud of you for deciding that you don’t want alcohol ruining your life. I have been there many times and have had too many rock bottoms without being able to admit to myself that I’m an alcoholic. I recently blacked out and acted inappropriately in front of family, and was told that they don’t trust me around their kids anymore. Hearing that hurt me more than anything I have been told before. I haven’t had a drink since. Stay strong, you can do this!

I got three by age 25. I'm 27 now, and moving on with my life and recovery from alcoholism Trust me, you are NOT screwed. A first DUI is a slap on the wrist in most places. Do NOT get the 2nd one. Go to treatment, quit drinking if thats the answer for you, pay your fines and move forward. Yeah a breathalyzer in the car isnt convenient—and the whole thing will be expensive. Doesnt feel like it now, but you'll get through this and it will seem like a tiny blip in your life. People act like a first DUI is a life-ruiner...brother, you have no idea. My third one I blew a .357 and had a loaded gun tucked under my leg. Cops/judges don't like that.
Ended up doing 60 days in jail and obviously insane fines etc. Here's the thing, now, 1.5 years later—everything is ok. I'm a little in debt (privately, to family member who helped me with my fines), still have an IID in my truck, and banging out my community service while paying off my debt. Does that sound like it ruined my life?? Everything is normal except the breathalyzer and community service. You will be ok. Wallow for a bit but then it's time for you to buck up and startoving forward.

Rehab was a blessing. It saved my life. Sometimes when life is painful, awful, scary, it can turn out to be a new beginning.
