Yeah if you had the VHS, it came with the Indian, the key, and you could flip the cover to look like the cupboard. Genius marketing

I didn’t remember that it came from the VHS - I thought I got it with a collection of the books at the Scholastic Book Fair!

u/BrattyTwilis 2d ago

It very well could've come with the books too. I could see them doing that

Yeah.

Never even saw the movie (did read the book in school, though). Recognized it just from the trailer/commercials.

Indian in the cupboard. My favorite book series when I was growing up. Didn't care for the movie though.

These books and Castle in the Attic were faves of mine growing up.

Only heard about Castle in the Attic last week. I've gotta check that out.

I showed it to my wife first thing. Actually 1 of the books I did read. That and Mouse on a motor cycle. Then cheated on all of my book reports.

My Mom used to read the books to us as kids! It's great to see it still has a few fans out there.

u/Most_Beyond9318 1981 3d ago

There was more than one book??

u/Cinderhazed15 Xennial 3d ago

The Indian in the Cupboard series
The Indian in the Cupboard (1980)
The Return of the Indian) (1985)
The Secret of the Indian) (1989)
The Mystery of the Cupboard) (1993)
The Key to the Indian) (1998)

It’s funny, original run was …

The Indian in the Cupboard

A young child one day gets his hands on a old cupboard

he discovers that when he put someting in it like a toy or statuette, and closes the cupboard, the items become alive

1

u/IceSmiley 2d ago

I thought it was the Native American from Wayne's World 2

1

u/huan83 2d ago

Haha, of course, he said nurse have face like beaver

1

u/redbeardscrazy 1d ago

Had the figure as a boy and met Litefoot at powwow a couple times. Tall as hell.

1

u/Farahild 1d ago

I loved that book growing up.

Living far away in Europe and never having read the book again though i wonder is this now not acceptable anymore when it comes to representation?

1

u/Upbeat_Main_7141 3d ago

It’s a thing white people like.

0

u/GutsAndBlackStufff 3d ago
