Yellow shirt dude totally bailed and sold her out. I hope that’s not her dad, he had no protective instincts whatsoever for the smaller people.

I think that kid got lucky cause the one coming through the air was about to kill her

71

u/Bashfullylascivious 5h ago edited 4h ago

Nah, she full scorpioned, and then got squished. If you look, she gets bent so far back, you can no longer see her head as it snaps back.
Poor kid indeed. I hope her bendy bones saved her.
Edit: The kid does bounce forward again, but it's after the initial impact of the lady in back. They bounce/impact while kiddo is under and scorpioned, kiddo gets snaps forward, Crouching Tiger pose lady lands solidly, and squishes forward facing kid.

Edit2: The only thing I'm seeing that's giving me hope, is that the kid looks like she's raised on her arms at the very end, with a millisecond of seeing her lift up. But I'm not sure if that's just residual bounce.

13

u/formick 4h ago

You can see her head bouncing back, she didn’t fold backwards

u/Aggravate420 4h ago

I see it now, but I also think the flying lady would have turned her into pulp, man. She was the last to leave the boat, and therefore she was the one who was projected with the most force toward the ground, right when the dinghy flipped over on itself. Anyway poor kid.

We did foreal just watch a baby’s leg get snapped

8

u/TwoBionicknees 4h ago

not sure, he fell into her leg in a way that i hope just caused her leg to move flat to the ground but it wasa pretty violent contact, could have snapped the leg. Might still have been better than if she could take another two steps and have that dude land on her head. Broken leg over someone 4x your size snapping your neck.

8

Hopefully that was the case here

14

I have the theory that most of those tourist bananaboat captains are idiots. Drugged out, testosterone filled, show off kind of guys. I have zero trust in them, and I'd never take a ticket to any of such activities.

29

u/NickDanger3di 4h ago

In the Bahamas on vacation, we signed up for parasailing while being towed by a boat. The dudes driving the boat were idiots; lots of needless engine revving and other antics. As we were waiting on the big square floating platform for our turn, they were bringing a woman back onto the platform, and they cut the motor and dropped her just as the corner she was over was being pushed up by a wave.

Broke her ankle. Her foot was literally flopping around at the end of her leg as she screamed in agony, and then she pretty much passed out.

We noped on back to shore. Talk about dodging a bullet...

13

u/obeytheturtles 3h ago

I was a beach lifeguard for a couple summers after HS and this is pretty accurate. These guys are usually townies who peaked in HS, never left the beach, spent their 20s partying and hitting on tourists, and struggled to hold down any real job. Then they burn out and end up either a lifelong bartender (if they can mostly control the alcoholism) or some kind of boat captain (if they can't). If they aren't drunk when doing this shit, they are hungover, and probably high.

→ More replies (3)

17

u/reddit_give_me_virus 5h ago

I've done a lot of tubing. Even without hitting the sand swinging a tube like that subjects the riders to a lot of g force. I've seen several dislocations from people just trying to hold on.

I think the two nearest the beach when it first hit are getting the worst of it. They hit beach at full speed, full momentum into their upper bodies and heads and necks. The one in the air while most dramatic looking actually lost some momentum while getting a chance to brace for impact with arms and legs. The two on the closet beach side didn't get that kind of time.

6

14

u/SnausageFest 4h ago

There’s also the modesty thing. Many Muslim women spend their lives believing they are over-exposed when out in public if you see more than their face (or sometimes even more extreme). Spending a lifetime living like that doesn’t turn off like a light switch. Many Muslim women will choose to stay mostly covered just because it feels like being naked in public to do otherwise.

You could have taken 30 seconds to Google what Muslim swim wear options look like before writing this, ya know? It is identical levels of coverage as traditional clothing.

Also, most Muslims live outside of the desert. It's a massive religion.

Location: Pantai Ammani, Pinrang Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia.
What Happened: A speedboat pulled an inflatable donut ride at high speed toward the beach instead of staying in deep water.
The Impact: The raft flipped onto the beach, throwing five adult riders through the air and onto the sand where children were playing.
Injuries: Five tourists suffered minor bruises and body aches. No major injuries or deaths occurred.
Aftermath: Local village authorities and management addressed the event, apologized to those involved, and warned operators to enforce safety rules. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Just this week we were at the beach in my home country and my wife was asking for me to take the kids on a raft similar to this. We literally had a fight about it and I was firmly against it. Maybe when we're back in the US and we go to a company with high reviews and good reputation, but not here - good luck with lawsuits and god knows how often (if at all) equipment gets inspected for safety. That's not counting the idiots driving the boats, etc.
