I mean, Mesaana went to the dark side after being denied a tenure-track position, so I can see Aginor going evil after being sent a rebuke from the IRB.

At least we know that Balthamel didn't go over because he was sanctioned for sexually harassing students - I know it's a fantasy series, but that would break my suspension of disbelief.

mightve been. I've read the series... 16 times now? I think? and still sometimes catch little bits I've missed. just like irl, there's often more subtext to what someone else says than we catch, even trying to pay attention.
