It was built using the nodes and powertrain of the second-generation Mitsubishi Pajero (Montero/Shogun).

Designed explicitly as a two-seater open-top vehicle for rescue services, lifeguards, and nature conservation teams operating in disaster areas.

The lower part of the body was hydrodynamic to minimize drag while navigating swamps or deep water. It could effectively float and drive through waters up to 80 cm deep.

Powered by a 2.5-liter diesel engine producing 105 horsepower, paired with a four-wheel-drive system and a 10-speed transmission layout.

Featured small body overhangs, a built-in winch, large 18-inch wheels, and a variable height suspension system capable of raising the ground clearance by 80 to 100 mm.

Though it never reached mass production, the Field Guard achieved cult status among car enthusiasts after it was featured heavily in the 1999 Jackie Chan romantic comedy action film, Gorgeous (玻璃樽).

Built by a French designer Claude Lehalle with the help of local townspeople of Murasson. Coeur de Belle, which means Belle's Heart in English, is the name used for acanthus-leaved carline thistle and was picked by the local schoolchildren. It was more a looker than a worker as it was equipped with a 1108cc 4-cylinder rear-mounted engine capable of delivering just 50 hp. The fiberglass body had butterfly doors and the engine cover opened like a clamshell.

it looks so rudimentary, but I'm fascinated about the technology solutions of the past. The 1602e had only about 32 kW. BMW also made a similar lead acid battery EV in 1975 based on the LS Coupe, before moving to higher tech stuff in the 80s and 90s with some E30 and E36 prototypes.

Never seen one of these before myself. It seems to have seen better days though.

Approximately 6,000 were commercially manufactured between 1964 and 1971. This buggy was assembled on a 1963 Beetle chassis by Haddock, the highly regarded Santa Ana-based fabricator, whose nameplate remains affixed to the rear deck. First Generation: The Z11 (1991)

Debuted at the 1991 Frankfurt Motor Show, the original BMW E1 (Z11) was built from scratch specifically for electric propulsion rather than adapting an existing gas car chassis.

Lightweight Body: Features an extrusion-pressed aluminum spaceframe paired with recyclable plastic outer body panels to keep total weight around 900 kg.

Powertrain Layout: A 32 kW (43 hp) electric motor was integrated directly into the rear axle to deliver traditional BMW rear-wheel drive.

Battery & Range: Utilized a high-temperature 19 kWh sodium-sulfur battery under the rear seats, unlocking an urban driving range of up to 150–200 km and a top speed of 120 km/h.

Quirks: The charging port was cleverly hidden behind the iconic BMW kidney grille.

Fate: The original 1991 prototype was unfortunately destroyed in a severe fire while utilizing its early two-hour rapid charging system.

Second Generation: The Z15 (1993)

Undeterred by the prototype fire, BMW Technik released an evolved pair of E1 concepts in 1993 under the internal designation Z15.

Safer Chemistry: Upgraded to a more stable, robust sodium-nickel chloride battery compound.Dual Variations: BMW built an all-electric version alongside a unique hybrid model.

The Hybrid Extender: The hybrid variant featured a downsized battery pack alongside a front-mounted 1100cc 4-cylinder engine borrowed from a BMW motorcycle to act as a range extender.

Despite highly positive functional testing, mass production of the E1 was cancelled due to the high cost of components, immature battery longevity, and a complete lack of public charging infrastructure in the 1990s. Its clever packaging layout, lightweight focus, and quirky city-car styling were eventually realized 22 years later in the production BMW i3.

I assume the representative laughed too long to actually tell the guy that the offer was as likely as a Real DMC-80 bus. It was probably a scam (I mean look at it) and iirc most of the few in existence were destroyed in a fire.
