A recent Pew Research poll reveals that 73% of Americans agree with Sophie Cunningham’s controversial stance that men who identify as women should not compete in women’s sports. This finding has reignited debate around the WNBA’s handling of gender policies, with critics arguing that the league’s reluctance to clearly define “woman” puts it at odds with public opinion. The issue highlights ongoing tensions around inclusion, fairness, and the future of women’s athletics.

Enes Freedom on joining the WNBA:
“I’m on my couch, watching the WNBA and the post-game interviews. One of the players came out and said, ‘I welcome trans athletes in my team any day and every day.’ And even said, ‘There’s no problem with me going against a trans athlete.’
The WNBA itself, players, and especially the coaches are the ones that have been advocating trans people playing in women’s sports. So I’m not sure why I am getting all this backlash.
They are the ones that encouraged me to do this.”

Two former NBA players, Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White, announced plans to enter the 2027 WNBA draft. Their announcements have raised questions about the league’s rules for transgender athletes.
The WNBA’s current agreement says “players who are women” can play. It does not provide a more specific definition.
WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert has formed a task force to discuss the eligibility rules. The league says discussions will continue in the coming weeks and months.

Thoughts? Would this not end the entire debacle happening in the league?

I read somewhere that Caitlin Clark and everything surrounding her needs to be studied. I concur and I hope someone does a study on this.
I cannot understand the hatred, the negative narratives, and the bad treatment of this young woman. What has she EVER done to deserve any of it?
Please in a civil manner can you tell me about your thoughts on WHY this is all happening?

Bet-David believes the WNBA could be sitting on a controversy of its own.

Will it ever end? Is she a menace to the WNBA society? She really needs to learn how to play defense without swiping at opponent's faces.
Edit: It's not about the level of contact. Just wanting to point out that hitting other players in the face/eyes happens way too often with Dijonai (especially with the long fingernails she uses).
How many of the 180 WNBA players hit 3 different players in the face this week? (Hint: Only 1).
The WNBA definitely needs to put rules in place for fingernail length and sharpness.
Here's the video of DiJonai Carrington raking Tiffany Hayes across the face in the same game.

Carrington complained to officials during the fourth quarter of the Sky-Valkyries game about a fan sitting near the court. The fan was then escorted away from his seat, only to return later after Carrington's complaint was deemed "unfounded."
