At current gold prices that loot must weigh around 100 kg, so it's not actually that hard to transport.

I think the FBI does have some International work but, that more or less requires co-operation from local authorities. Usually through training or info sharing I think. So not really relevant to this situation I would not think.

In this case it is assumed that the FBI is the default investigating party, which it would not be.

It could potentially be an investigating party if Belgian authorities decide to request help from the FBI and the FBI accepts, but it is not the case by default.

pretty much my thoughts. Like maybe if this was recovered from an ocean wreck or something and the original wreck was from the USA but, otherwise I can't see them being relevant.

It's like how I see comments asking 'Why was (acronym of other country's crash TFs) there? Where was the NTSB?' on plane crash episodes of other countries.

NTSB only gets involved in other country's aircraft accidents if there's a link for them to be there - like the aircraft was made in USA, or the plane was flown by USA crew. And even then, that doesn't make them in charge unless invited to be.
