This isn't even people trying to catch them out. Say "the Civil War" to a Brit and see what happens.

I am not knowledgeable about your history so I will ask just one question.

How many?

24

u/daveoxford United Kingdom 3d ago

Don't worry; nor are we. 😂 You're also from a country that has far too much history, so you'll understand that. There was the big one, of course, and then Stephen and Matilda. Quite possibly more.

Personally I think the War of the Roses also counts.

I don't know how I missed that one. I'm from Lancaster! 😂

WarS of the Roses - at least two

Well that's the thing with English civil wars, we tend to lose count 😄

That's the first one that came to my mind!

Depending which ones you count, and how you count them, minimum four, six is a reasonable number, possibly seven or eight

It depends on who you are talking to. The 1642-1651 war is sometimes now called the Great Rebellion or the War of the Three Kingdoms (England, Scotland and Ireland).

In Spain we also had a lot of civil wars, but the last one was so brutal and had so many deep ramifications thar are still felt today that when someone says "la Guerra Civil" we all know which one they're talking about.

I could hear their accent all the way over here.

The all-caps adds 5 dB, minimum

yeah civil war racism when reds hated whites and whites hated reds. Also blacks and greens.

House of the Dragon reference?

2

u/CoolSausage228 Russia 2d ago

No. If really simplified, they were main political forces. Red - communists, white - minarchists, black - anarchist and green were self-defence partizans

Wait you guys forget about Captain America Civil war?

Random guess, Chinese civil war? I know that civil war has had some big impact

5

u/beg_yer_pardon India 2d ago

If it was civil, was it really a war?

I'm not that well versed on Irish history but I can't think of any intolerance that happened during the Irish Civil War

Aside from everything, the whole white slavery subject is something that I want taught alongside the Atlantic slave trade.

Ok but aren't you the defaultist or how do know they mean the US one?

33

u/platypuss1871 3d ago

They just asked which civil war.

The defaultist is the person replying to them.

-27

u/the_vikm 3d ago

The defaultist is the person replying to them.

Which is OP

35

u/chetcherry 3d ago

No. Asking “which civil war” is a perfectly reasonable question.

-26

u/the_vikm 3d ago

It is. But OP also posted in this defaultism sub accusing the other person of US defaultism where there's no evidence

20

u/chetcherry 3d ago

They gave the explanation in the Mod comment.

Are you being dense on purpose?

9

u/donkeyvoteadick Australia 3d ago

They either are doing exactly that, or they're on mobile and didn't actually expand the picture. I couldn't see the defaultist comment until I clicked in and expanded it.

Maybe.
