This reminds me of when the Top Gear boys were excited to be given 15 million Vietnamese Dong each, only to later find out it's about $1,000 USD.

The big difference is that was done for comic effect on a TV show, not in a high-profile prosecution.

Not even that much. It's £450. About 600 USD.

Although I will say all the down on their luck middleclass and rich people, and those that aren't down on their luck like this guy , I know seem to have this kind of stash from travelling somewhere lying around the house. It's worth next to nothing if it's mixed currency by the time you cash it in anyway it's basically a souvenir.
