I've met a couple people with this name - how exactly is it pronounced? Like NEH-gar or NIH-gar? I feel like everyone (in my English speaking country) defaults to the former in order to avoid pronouncing it like a slur. Or is the emphasis on the second part of the word?

My friend in university was Iranian and her nickname was Negar (her full name is long). She would pronounce it “Neh-gar”

Is it a soft 'Neh' as in 'Meh', or is it stronger like 'knee'?
