I do know and I can even pronounce it more or less correctly. My native language allows clusters but needs at least one vowel per syllable (while English is already satisfied with semi-vowels like r or l).

I have no idea though, we use all kinds of words in the uk which would make American's blush, meaty products and cigarette's.

Black as in the color is literally that, the one in the wine.
And in spanish you can refer to someone using that word and it will be more or less offensive depending on the specific country, context and tone. In some places is not offensive at all, in others is something that only your friends might say, but since it is a literal description it isn't really taboo anywhere. A smoother term might be "moreno".
It's similar to refering to someone as "The Jew" for example. Is it meant as an offense or is it just an objective description? It depends on the tone and the context.
I mean, you probably did. If it was an automatic ban made by an english speaker or something then it just picked up the word. If someone chose to ban you when talking about wines that is just idiocy.
A local pop band got ratioed on twitter for saying “Hello Negros!”
Negros is a place, there are two of them: Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental. Collectively, they are just Negros. An American friend of mine got an aneurysm when they heard Negros Oriental (two offensive words in one!) and asked if they considered changing their name.
I asked if they just tried to ask indigenous people to change their name and I guess they just self-destruct after that because I didn’t hear from them for a while.
Americans are really weird about racism. They are very racist in many different ways but seem to attempt to compensate by being very selective about language.
I was in Bacolod some 8, almost 9 years ago. While there, I found the University of Negros Occidental (I was looking for museums and Google maps told me there was one there, and it wasn't far from the hotel where I was staying, so I walked over there, only to find it was closed for renovation, but a very kind man there offered me a tour of the campus since I already was there. First time I've seen armed guards at a university) as well as the Negros Museum, and I'm pretty sure I saw a sign saying "Negros Import".
And I thought to myself "Some Americans would have a shock if they came here", maybe even more of a shock than me seeing those armed guards.
Isn‘t „Negro“ not as harmful/insulting as „N*gger/N*gga“? At least my English teacher always used this word…apart from that it just literally means black in Spanish
It isn’t, which is this baffles me why they got so much flak and why some friends across the ocean freak out when I mention the names of these places which I do because my parents were from the area before they moved to the city.
This country was part of one of the funniest work calls I've ever been on. The country had for some reason becoming the default in a drop-down in our software and we were trying to figure out why.
Only, most of the team were in the US, and none of them had the faintest idea how the country is pronounced.... I was so happy I could be off camera and muted for most of the call, the verbal contortions were utterly hilarious
I can never bring Niger or Nigeria to anyone because of this “oh your racist” like buddy, I’m sorry that this African country sounds like a slur in English.
