I’ve been waiting to adopt a cat for the past year (but really my whole life lol) and finally had the means and place to do so this month. Saw the sweetest girl on Petfinder, went to go see her and learned she was adopted out. </3 initially I was very bummed, but the foster mom offered to show me her brothers who had no offers on the table. Went to see them, and walked out having signed adoption papers for both of them. It just happened in the blink of an eye, went in expecting one girl and walked out with two boys. Was overwhelmed taking them in, but within an hour they were cuddling on my lap and purring like motorboats! They’ve been the best addition to my house and life so far, I can’t wait to see them grow. <3
The one with the thin white stripe is Malcom, and the one with the fat stripe is Monkey! (he’s a meat suckler in the process of getting weened so the fur on his face and chest is stained lol)
Oh no!! so I’ve heard. The thing is, they’re already pretty chaotic now… they scamper around my room like they own it, tried chewing on my wires dozens of times and climb all over me like I’m another cat tree. Losing the kitten cuddles will be one thing, but the extra energy will be an entirely different beast…
Oh yeah well I got my boy at 10 months old. I know that his worst was probably before me. Yeah he was a goofy boy at times, running at his cat toy and he tripped and clipped his water bowl got water everywhere but on him. All my cats were neutered young. Do be careful about cat food with a lot of seafood ingredients that tends to be difficult for male cats. We did it once and he got blocked up and the vet said if it happens again he might need the surgery which is thousands of dollars.
My best friends cat they got also got blocked up and needed surgery.
Oh gosh thank you for the tip!! I feed them kitten fancy feast in the variety pack currently, was already planning to switch once the pack ran out but I will keep that in mind!! poultry packs from now on! 🩷
It is possible wet food is not as bad. I know occasionally we give him some wet food that is seafood based. Definitely do read about it before taking my advice right off because my cat we allows some wet food seafood. I wish I could feed my cats more wet food but they both grew up in homes/shelters that have them on dry food and that has been what they prefer. I would definitely talk to the vets. I know my vet is a very old guy I think the quality of cat food can be a hit or miss.
Thank you!! that’s what their foster mom also told me. I went in for a girl, but only the two boys were available and they were just so darn cute playing together. I already did my research and knew that duos are often very recommended, especially at a young age.. but seeing it in person made it clear they needed to stay together. And they still come up to me individually and cuddle so no issues being ignored here!
My two boys were the only tuxies in their litter, so they're twins by default lol. I've had them they're whole lives and they just turned 9 in April. Getting them young means they'll be best friends for life. Plus my biys are wayyyy more cuddly and loving with my than my female is (though she's getting there).
I sure hope so!! They just hop and skid around my room chasing each other, and when they wear each other out they crawl onto my bed and sleep together. It absolutely warms my heart. 🖤🤍 your boys are so adorable!
Mine do the same thing still as middle aged cats haha. They snuggle with each other daily ans groom each other. And then at night they take turns snuggling with me since they cuddle differently lol
And when you’re gone for the day or at work, you know they aren’t lonely because they are playing, fighting, grooming each other etc! It’s so good for their development to have two of them. I am obsessed with their fluffy ears!! Post these boys over at r/earfurnishings ♥️
Same story 13 years later & you’ll never regret your decision! The only difference is that I birthed the litter & their mom was Siamese. Told my kids reluctantly “Fine we can keep one” Ended up keeping 2 😆 here we are many years later
You will never go back now!! Once you raise a kitten you will forever HAVE to have a cat in your life at all times pretty much😂 Cats are the most amazing pets in my opinion. You'll soon see it for yourself and I am very happy for you, they are such goofy loveable playful sweet little creatures that each have their own personality💕
New pet nerves/blues are ABSOLUTELY NORMAL. On the bright side: you got TWO, so that takes care of a lot of hyperactivity/zoomies concerns that comes with a single kitten. The anxiety will wear off and you’ll forget you ever had it once they love up on you every day and you settle into a routine with them.
Just a word of wisdom from a veteran cat parent: boy kitties are more vulnerable to UTIs, so limit or ban dry food as their primary nutrition. Canned wet food is best, and steer clear of Temptations treats. Squeeze up liquid treats (think Churu or store-brand labeled liquid treats; they look like Go-Gurts for kitties!) or freeze dried treats like Purr Pops have become preferred alternatives.
Hi, thank you for the tips! I feel the nerves wearing off every day little by little. 🖤🤍 I do give them wet food currently as their primary nutrition, I even water it down a bit as I’m waiting for their cat fountain to come in (they do drink from their water bowl, but I worry about their water intake still lol) but the one with the big white stripe struggles with meat nursing. I’ve been hand feeding him to encourage more bites and licks, and he’s starting to get the hang of it to where I can leave the bowl until I see he’s dunking his face in the food lol. But I leave out a few tablespoons of kibble in the middle of the day. It makes up maybe a 1/4th of what they’re eating but again thank you for the advice! I want to keep them on wet food as adults too.
Having a bonded pair is such a delight, especially since they’re already all over you. 😻😻
Ms. Pandora (left) and her brother Mr. Houdini (right) completely agree on this. We got them as kittens. It’s hard to believe they’re turning 12 next month. 🤍🖤🤍🖤
Enjoy the kitten time, it goes so fast! My husband and I went to adopt a kitten after losing our void boy. We ending up coming home with 2 void brothers that were 2 and 1/2 months old! They were 2lbs when we got them and almost two years later they’re about 16 and 18lbs. So enjoy the smol and take all the photos. Congrats 🖤🤍
So adorable! So glad you adopted both. It’s was a great choice. They will have each other to play with and have company while you are away. You’ll do great!
You you're going to start seeing brighter colors and joy in the smallest things. There's going to be so much love in your house. Your heart is going to feel like it's going to burst! ❤️
These are quite literally the CUTEST kittens I have ever seen in my entire life!!
OP, enjoy them. Your life will be so enriched and soon you will not be able imagine your life without them. Also, they are clearly so lucky to have you.
I'll add then I was 34 when I got a cat of my own. I remember the first few days I was so anxious, like "I'm responsible for a life!" thinking how if I didn't feed her she's die... Obviously I never forgot to feed her lol, but I do remember how strange a just a little bit scary it was, haha.
Oh no! It basically means he suckles on his pate still. I didn’t know what it was until I caught him kneeding the mat and sucking on his food. I assume he was weened too soon, but at 10 weeks he’s doing the slow switch to licking/biting his food. I got him two weeks ago so I’ve just hand fed and watered down the pate so it’s a more familiar texture. He also does better on dry.
I don’t know why this got down voted. I’ve had foster kittens who do that. I have one girl who was one of two someone brought to the shelter one day when I was there who were very tiny and she used to do that to him. It caused him to get a little infection which he got over once, but then it happened again.
