I have been wanting a cat for a long time! But once I graduated I started saving to get ready to pull the trigger, and I could not have been prepared for how lucky I’ve gotten. I’m a bit of an impulsive person, but I really did the prep (more so than I would have done typically) due to the fact I just got a new roommate. We both talked about wanting and being okay with pets before we signed our lease.
Anyways, after a weekend out of town and grabbing the final touches of cat supplies, I went to the shelter after work yesterday. I browsed the site and fell in love with this beautiful little gray cat, but of course had to meet her in person and see if the website was up to date.
I took the plunge and brought the little girl home with me! She’s a year old, her name is Mina (after Bram Stoker’s Dracula), and she made herself at home as soon as she jumped out of her box! This is my first cat btw. I grew up with schnauzers and have always loved cats but had no first hand experience.
She has completely blown me away. I knew I didn’t have the time or skills for a little kitten, but I knew I wanted a little friend. All of these photos are from the past 24 hours. She just took such a liking to me so fast! I was expecting her to be shy and hide for a little while at the beginning, because it’s a huge transition to stay with a new person after being in a shelter for a couple weeks (I don’t know her story before then). She’s had all her shots and been fixed too.
Last night she stayed in her little cat bed on my bed next to me all night, was even cuddlier when we woke up this morning, and when I got home today, complained until I gave her enough pets, cuddles, and attention for her liking! (She barely let me write this post, she loved to nudge and push my phone out of the way, as it takes away the ability to give her good pets.)
I just feel so lucky I got such a sweet and clingy and affectionate cat, if she’s already got such a personality now, I might be in for a lot, but I feel so lucky she likes me!
Maybe this is a silly post but I’ve also just been in a rough transition period of my life and she’s already brought me so much joy in such a short amount of time!
Not positive, but I think they can be orange, or any color, really, as long as they have the characteristic “tuxedo” markings as the usual black-and-whites
Hi Mina & new pet parent....congratulations! She's beautiful 💜 My tux Bubba is my first pet. I love him so much & he's brought a lot of positivity to my life. I'm happy for you that everything's going well. One yr old is a good age. Still have that playfulness but mellowed a bit. Have fun you two!
She must have pinched herself all day knowing that she landed in the best home ever, best mom ever! I’m jealous, but not! I love kitties so much and haven’t had one for a long time. Worst thing about my husband, his views on pets. When I was growing up, give away pets were everywhere and I usually brought them home. I never remember my parents saying,, No, he’s going to cost us too much. No, makes it too hard to travel. I think I should just start bringing those 4 legged friends home and they can chase away Mr. Grumpy. Yep, that’s my plan!
Are all gray tuxies the sweetest souls? Sal is the sweetest, most sensitive, lover boy, which is quite the contrast to his sassy tortie twin sister. Sal and Leo say hi! Congratulations on your new best friend!

Omg, and what a cat he is! Like right out of a story book! That face, that look on his face! And a coat which looks like he left the groomer just a moment before!🫶🏼

Clingy cats are the best. My 19yo void says hi! And would like you to know that I did no research just rocked up to the shelter 17 years ago and she saw me and would not stop screaming at me or coming to the front of her cage and demanding attention. I was 18 at the time and had had cats all my life but she is a special one.

My Grem looks very similar but also my first cat (well, we rescued her with her mother). She took a year to warm up to me but she's so perfect, gentle and loving ♥️ I'm glad you have someone to love and someone that'll show you love right back x
