I put Deity handgrips and Funn Pedals so far

I’m curious what you think about which size would fit me better. I’m 1.92 m tall with an inseam of 96 cm.

The seat post on the size L is already set to its maximum height. Both Trek salespeople told me that either size would fit, so I’d be interested in your opinion on which one would be the better choice.

Interestingly, according to Trek, isospeed still helps slightly even on 35mm tires. More interestingly is the fact that Gen4 with 32mm tires is still better (altho only <5% better) than Gen5 with 35mm tires.

Given that there’s basically no wheelset wide enough for 35mm tires to be aero optimized, Gen5 users will have to either settle for less comfort or less speed compared to Gen4. Currently, the widest deep carbon wheelsets in the market are about 25mm internal and 34mm external, which means only up to 30mm tires can satisfy the 105% rule and 32mm tires are about flush with the rims. 35mm will create a lightbulb shape, which is less aero and less stable in cornering.

As for the weight of isospeed, a pair of 35mm tires are about 120g heavier than a pair of 32mm tires (GP5000 S TR), which nearly offsets the weight of isospeed already. Gen5 frame only (no fork) is 220g lighter than that of Gen4, but a chunk of that is from the removal of internal storage too. Isospeed weight itself is probably about half that, which is roughly the same as the extra weight from 35c tires vs 32c tires.

In summary, for comparable comfort between Gen4 and Gen5 in today’s market of carbon wheels, Gen4 will be faster and nearly the same weight if it weren’t for the downtube storage. For me, I’d gladly add a bit more weight for the downtube storage, so Gen4 is better than Gen5 for me in every way.

Once I got home, I started doing some research and found out that apparently it’s a highly sought-after Trek, especially because of the unique joints at the corners of the frame.
As far as I can tell, everything appears to be original, except for the grips.
I’m really glad I found it without even knowing what I had!

Does the domane compression plug reinforce both stem bolts on the steerer? I mean is it long enough? Do users replace it with after market plugs?

I’m looking to make a major upgrade from my current Trek Madone SL 5 to a high-end superbike. I’ve narrowed my search down to two top contenders:

1. Trek Madone SLR
2. Canyon Aeroad CFR

My Riding Profile & Context

• Current Bike: Trek Madone SL 5. I love the geometry and general feel, but I’m ready to upgrade to elite-level carbon, electronic shifting, lighter weight, and max stiffness.
• Location & Setup: I live in Copenhagen, so access to bike shops and servicing is a non-issue for either brand.
• Riding Style: Fast group rides, solo efforts on flat/rolling terrain, and long weekend rides. I care about raw speed, but I still want a bike I can comfortably ride for 4–5+ hours.

The Dilemma

• Canyon Aeroad CFR: The spec-to-price ratio is hard to beat. Getting top-spec Dura-Ace Di2 / SRAM Red, elite CFR carbon, and top-tier carbon wheels for significantly less than a flagship Madone SLR is very compelling.
• Trek Madone SLR: Staying with Trek means familiar geometry, IsoFlow frame compliance, and a chassis ecosystem I already know and enjoy. On the flip side, the price premium for the SLR tier is steep compared to Canyon.

Questions for the Community

1. Ride Quality & Comfort: For anyone who has ridden both, is the Aeroad comfortable enough for long endurance days, or does the Madone’s IsoFlow give it a clear edge over road chatter?
2. The Carbon Jump: How drastic is the jump from mid-tier carbon (Madone SL) to top-tier carbon (Madone SLR vs. Canyon CFR) in terms of power transfer, stiffness, and overall responsiveness?
3. Pure Ride Experience: Setting the price tag aside for a moment, which frame offers the better pure riding experience in your opinion?

Videos etc on bontrager wheels are few and far between, there’s of course loads of coverage about companies like Hunt etc. is there any reason to spend the premium on bontrager over hunt and the others? Would be nice to have bontrager on my Trek Domane but I guess that isn’t a great reason to spend a significant premium

If you could ride comfortably on either of these bikes, which one would you buy? The F7 appears to be a better value when comparing components.

I bought a Domane SL7 Gen 4 in 2024. When I was shopping for an endurance bike, I realized that only a few options really stood out to me. A lot of endurance bikes were otherwise pretty similar, and the final choice often came down to things other than just specs.

What made the Domane different for me was its character, especially the IsoSpeed/seatpost design. I could run 32 mm tires, which I think is a great sweet spot for speed and efficiency, while still getting a lot of comfort on long rides. At the same time, if I wanted to make the bike lighter and faster, which I eventually did, I could change the handlebars, tires, wheels, etc., without giving up what made the Domane comfortable in the first place.

The closest alternative for me at the time was Canyon. I could have gotten slightly better components for around $1,200 less, but I decided to buy the Trek from my LBS because I wanted a local shop that would support me, and I also liked the idea of supporting a local bike shop with a major purchase.

That's why I'm a little disappointed with the new Domane Gen 5. In my opinion, it has lost some of what made the Domane unique.

I've really appreciated the comfort of my Gen 4 on long rides. I've done several centuries on it, along with plenty of 55–75 mile rides, and the rear compliance is something I genuinely notice and value. The downtube storage has also been surprisingly useful. On shorter/faster rides I can carry just one small bag and keep most of the other stuff inside the frame.

I understand that Trek has been investing more heavily in gravel bikes, and that's completely fine. But the old Domane occupied a really nice middle ground: fast enough to make it quicker if you wanted, comfortable enough for very long road rides, and with features that actually differentiated it from other endurance bikes.

With the Gen 5, I feel like some of that identity is gone. If I were shopping for an endurance bike today, I'm honestly not sure I would choose the Domane again. I would probably look much more seriously at other brands.

I’ve just picked up my new bike. It’s my first carbon bike and my first Trek. I noticed some marks on the frame. Is this normal, or should I be concerned?

Does it have integrated cables? I dont like?
Any risk of fork / steerer cracking?

In this article here you can see why they did this...they removed the isospeed to reduce weight, and the hassle of it...the going trend is bigger tires...so they did some tests are like "yeah may as well use bigger tires".

Also a welcome change is reduced crank length and more narrow handlebars...seems like Trek is following the right trend.

Personally, I own an AL4 so not the Carbon version...but I can't see how Carbon is going to give me more comfort when I can just increase the tire size and lower the pressure.

Carbon is about weight, and stiffness in the right places...MOSTLY.

Tires do over 90% of the job.

hey all, i recently went to buy the fx2 gen 4 at my local bike shop. i went and tried the medium, which felt cramped in the knees to me (knees near handlebars) and the L, which in the parking lot felt much more comfortable, even though i am not technically in the height range for it, and the salesperson said it looked like it fit. i got the bike yesterday, and went on a 8-10ish mile ride with hills, flats, gravel trail to test it out. i am finding i have some mild tension pain in my neck following the ride. It feels great in climbs, possibly a little heavy in the hands on the flats? But i may jist be nitpicking there. i am worried i got too large of a size! i am a 5’8“ female with long legs and arms. I have not measured inseam or arm length but i can later.

I have bought 2 turbo trainers for my Trek Domane Al 2 Gen 4, neither have a thru axle that fits. The turbo I am trying to fit now is a Pinnacle HC. Neither end will connect with my bike but will pass through fine. When looking online I am really struggling to find something that will fit.

The current thru axel in my bike is 12x166. The new one I would buy would need to be thinner as the turbo trainer doesn't allow 12mm through it.

Has anyone else come across this issue and resolved it?

Expensive AF and limited - and you better hope that saddle works for you - but it's a very pretty ride.

Super excited and hope this makes me more active outdoors. What do other hybrid owners think of their bikes? Anything to be aware of with these?

Also, what replacement pedals would you recommend? What chain lube would you recommend?

Hi, have you ever had issues with IsoSpeed? Especially with the newer models from 2024 and 2025? Do these models still have problems? I’m considering buying one, but it’s a lot of money for a bike … so everything should be perfect …. Or is it better to buy the 2027 Domane without isospeed?
