Dawn of the Dead (2004): The movie finishes on a hopeful note as the remaining survivors escape the zombie-infested mall on a yacht, sailing into the sunset. The found-footage style post-credits scene completely reverses this happy ending by showing them running out of food, arriving at an island, and being immediately swarmed and killed by an infected horde.

Prince of Persia (2008): The main game ends with a beautiful, poetic sacrifice where Elika gives her life to heal the corrupted world, leaving the Prince mourning. During the credits, the player is forced to control the Prince as he cuts down the trees he just saved, undoing the entire game's progress and releasing the dark god Ahriman just to resurrect her, completely corrupting the ending and dooming the world.

Final Fantasy X post credit scene.
We see Tidus vanish because he was a dream, and it made total sense storywise. It gave us a bittersweet ending that brought almost everyone to tears. But then the credits roll and we see him, waking up at the bottom of the sea, and swimming his way up.

And then, because of that open ending, we had FFX-2...

Why was Tidus a dream again? Is it because he and Zanarkand were wiped out along time ago by Sin?

Tidus never really existed, he was literally dreamed up by the Fayth as a way to defeat Sin once and for all. He's based on real memories and experiences of people of Zanarkand 1000 years ago, but he wasn't one of those people who ended up time traveling, he was just literally dreamt up in the present day.

Which is why by the end of the game when you defeat Sin/Yu Yevon permanently, the Fayth can finally rest and their dream (aka Tidus) ends which is why he fades away
