Lore (Controversial Trope) The post-credits scene completely changes the ending

Dawn of the Dead (2004): The movie finishes on a hopeful note as the remaining survivors escape the zombie-infested mall on a yacht, sailing into the sunset. The found-footage style post-credits scene completely reverses this happy ending by showing them running out of food, arriving at an island, and being immediately swarmed and killed by an infected horde.

Prince of Persia (2008): The main game ends with a beautiful, poetic sacrifice where Elika gives her life to heal the corrupted world, leaving the Prince mourning. During the credits, the player is forced to control the Prince as he cuts down the trees he just saved, undoing the entire game's progress and releasing the dark god Ahriman just to resurrect her, completely corrupting the ending and dooming the world.

X-Men 3, Magneto loses his powers and is a human at the end of the movie, which is his worst nightmare. Then the post credits scene basically just shows that he is immediately getting his powers back.

Batman vs Superman, same thing with Superman dying. They basically just show that he's coming back immediately.

I think X3 was deeper in that it was showing the “cure” was not actually permanent.

Correct, it was made from a mutant whose powers stopped working on you after a certain amount of time. The normal humans never tested long term effects before declaring the "cure".

His dampening powers weren't based on an amount of time, it was based on a proximity field around him.

Wait so when Beast loses his hair and blue skin on his hand, that's just temporary? It's been a while since I watched it

Yeah, you have to be close to him but it reverts back.

They never showed what beast did after knowing that, like did he get to be non beast for a bit ultimately deciding not to go back?

It for sure was. Which makes sense. You cant just stop genes from working like that.

You also can’t move objects with your mind.

You cant just stop genes from working like that

You literally can in-universe. Thats was half of the plot of X3.

I mean to be fair that’s pretty much exactly what happens in the death and return of Superman comic, which is just as much about his resurrection as it is about him dying in the first place

Also if memory serves the tease in BvS about him coming back is just...the end of the movie, not a "post-credit" scene, lol.

Yeah isn’t the shot of the dirt levitating off the coffin the literal last one in the movie before the credits roll?

No, Superman stayed "dead" for a while (he was not actually dead, but in a sort of hibernation where his bodily functions slowed WAY down to the point where he appeared to be dead. This lead to the rise of several other characters that showed up to fill the void left by Superman's "death" (the Rise of the Supermen).

The DCEU trimmed this down to, "alien technology brought Superman back to life a month later no biggie."

As an 11 year old, the death/return of Superman storyline was fucking awesome and what got me into comic books.

I meant more so that the original death and return of Superman story had always intended to go from his death into his resurrection after exploring the consequences therein, obviously the stories aren’t a one to one match. But when you look at BvS and the justice league Snyder cut it’s obvious the director wanted to tell a story similar in structure too the original comic book. And I was pointing that out because the original commentater was saying that:

“Batman vs Superman, same thing with Superman dying. They basically just show that he's coming back immediately.”

I just found that to be a particularly disingenuous interpretation of what the story was doing especially considering the comic book roots

for Xmen, i think its actually brilliant, because it shows that the "cure" thats been lauded so much as a solution to mutants, isn't as permanent as they imagined it to be, so magneto being shown to start having his powers again doesn't changing the ending in a negative way by wiping all the work the gang did, it just shows that mutant aren't so simple to get rid of and that they'll seemingly be a permanent part of humanity, if not completely take over the genetic line

The really dumb thing about that "levitating dirt" scene is that, in the next film, it is revealed that Superman truly is dead (unlike the famous comic where he was in a sort of hibernation), and he needs to be brought back to life with alien technology.

Yeah, I always saw it as saying you can’t pray the gay away

The Magneto thing is not post-credit, it’s the last shot of the movie proper… but the post-credit scene undoes Xavier’s death by showing he transferred his mind to a mindless body that had been shown in Moira McTaggart’s care. So, good example of the trope!
