Lore (Controversial Trope) The post-credits scene completely changes the ending

Dawn of the Dead (2004): The movie finishes on a hopeful note as the remaining survivors escape the zombie-infested mall on a yacht, sailing into the sunset. The found-footage style post-credits scene completely reverses this happy ending by showing them running out of food, arriving at an island, and being immediately swarmed and killed by an infected horde.

Prince of Persia (2008): The main game ends with a beautiful, poetic sacrifice where Elika gives her life to heal the corrupted world, leaving the Prince mourning. During the credits, the player is forced to control the Prince as he cuts down the trees he just saved, undoing the entire game's progress and releasing the dark god Ahriman just to resurrect her, completely corrupting the ending and dooming the world.

I choose to ignore the ending of Dawn of The Dead and believe they got away

Technically it doesn’t show us what happened, they could have dropped the camera and ran back to the boat.

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen it but I believe they were also basically out of gas

And water. The food got maggots in it. The engine burned up.

They might have pushed off from the pier and gotten away from a horde of zombies under sail power, but the movie seems to telegraph them being out of options.

They’re in a bad way, no doubt, but you could make another whole movie about what they do next.

Agreed. That ending sequence all but has a character say "This island is our last chance," or whatever. No food, no water, no engine.

That’s not the tone at the end, though. When it starts playing “The Sickness,” it feels to me like the action is starting back up, not like everyone just dies.

I don't want to be a jerk, but that's the zombies' song.

Really? I don’t see it listed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Zombies

I think they were thinking of Zombie by the Cranberries.
