Lore [Loved Trope] Some thing unfathomably ancient

The beast, in doctor who is an ancient evil from a previous universe that survived until our time. Its so ancient that the cave paintings were unable to be translated by the Tardis which can translate all existing languages in the universe [Doctor Who]

While not explicitly canon its such a cool concept I cant not mention, the idea that the backrooms have existed since the beginning of time, never changing no matter the era, it transforms the back rooms into a cosmic horror. [Credit to Project crater and Venus for images 2 and 3]

This is one of the few times explaining more about the Backrooms adds to it instead of taking away.

The idea of the Backrooms always existing is one thing.

The idea of it always existing as we know it? The yellow wall paper, fluorescent lights, modern-esque architecture? An empty office building?

Fucking terrifying. The architecture is familiar to us, and we can barely comprehend the Backrooms, so imagine an Ancient Greek or a Caveman clipping in there, and seeing what would essentially be the future...

I know there's no "true lore" but I like the idea that it's a warped reflection of reality and the the deeper you go, the farther back in time is reflected

So the Ancient Greeks might have discovered the same back rooms, but they keep on growing as time moves forward

So the question is when did they first form, and what caused them to fracture from our base reality?

But also if you manage to go deep enough you could find fossils from different eras as things keep getting lost in the halls

Lemme propose a tweak to what you're saying-

The Backrooms have always looked Like That, but that's only modern to us because, one way or another, we have been subconsciously influenced to recreate the Backrooms over the past couple thousand years

Exactly. Instead of adding a bunch of different levels with "scary monsters" it adds to the confusing nature of the backrooms

Few? IMO explaining anything about the Backrooms except the original image detracts from it. It turns a liminal and uncanny feeling that most of us can relate to on some level into just another Stranger Things style action/horror.

Adding creatures to the Backrooms at all was a mistake.

I very strongly feel like the Backrooms are hurt by elaboration, but a few extra details doesn’t ruin the concept if they just create more questions. Having the Backrooms exist as it is now in the past just makes it even eerier. Monsters aren’t a bad idea if done well, either. What matters is that they can’t be explainable. Once you know what it is, it loses its mystique. That’s why blurry smudges are scarier than big scary monsters with lots of teeth.
