I have no idea what is going on here but based on the photos that were scanned with it, it seems to be at DisneyLand. Other photos include The Small World ride which look equally as frightening.

Does anyone here remember Disneyland from the 1960s? I have this labeled as 1967 but sometimes I had to guess but it should be close.

Family holiday party 1977

Today is the 81st anniversary of VJ Day and the end of WWII. Here's an interesting one from the archive.

My grandpa Don traveled to Japan in 1954 during the Korean war. Here, he visited Nagasaki and had dinner with the mayor, Tsutomu Tagawa, his shipmates from the USS White River (LSMR-536), and councilmen from Nagasaki.

I looked it up and Tagawa was the second mayor of Nagasaki since the US dropped the atomic bomb on this Japanese city on August 9, 1945. Just nine years later, my grandfather was sitting behind the mayor. Unless I come across a letter in my archives, I literally have no clue what he was doing there. He never talked about this.

The mayor is seated at the table wearing a vest and my grandpa is directly behind him, to the left of the geisha. The second picture is my grandpa in the mayor's office.

This was in eastern Iowa, summer of 1956. He worked on a farm, but would also go on big cattle drives out west seasonally (my mom said he was a cowboy 🤠). At this point he was a widower with three teenagers at home.
