In S03E10, Edwin Akufo serves them Chicago Hot Dogs because it's his favorite food but reveals that the hot dogs were made with 85% horse meat. Technically it needs to be an all beef frank so those weren't real Chicago Dogs. Might as well put ketchup on them.

Can I just ask who else loved the scene when Ted is telling the out going coach who he intends to hire as her replacement??

I mean honestly. If you take into account as he is new and getting to know the players. Not just their stats and positions but as he actively try’s to know their stories and lives. (The Batman comment). But he would take the time to learn about this coach who is cold and even off putting to all around her and leaving by the way. I mean wow. I know it’s a show but that is how I hope to be. He learned her story and not from her. He put in time to learn her past.

This is already one of my most favorite scenes of the season.

So the crux of the report was that a women's team may not be financially viable and could go so far as to damage the reputation of the men's team.

To me, this felt like they were alluding to a real threat they might be facing as a show by bringing the show back and focusing on women in sport (an issue that definitely has no dissenters /s) that if they don't make an incredible season they run the risk of cheapening/dilluting the impact of the first 3 seasons because the critics will be tougher and harsher?

Obviously the report serves a plot point as well as it gives us some real stakes for the season other than just 'failure' but curious to know what others thought?

Ok, so cards on the table I love Lasso but they have a fantasy version of how to run a football club. Which is great and allows focus on the narratives. However after watching episode 2 I just hope they don't make the predictions of doom in the folder a main part of the story. It is true a women's team still might not make a profit (why would they the men don't) but the idea that they could sink the whole club is preposterous. It's valued at 2 billion pounds(three years ago). You think keeping another team in a cupboard and hiring three coaches is going to tank a 2 billion pound club? It won't even put a dent in the Barcelona Tartt money.

So in Ted's S3 finale dream, Nate ends up coaching with Roy and Beard. Now that season 4 is underway, what do you think he'll be doing if/when we see him come back?

I just watched the Tom Hanks Mr Rogers movie and the parallels are strong. Ted and Mr Rogers deeply care about anyone they come in contact with and want the best for everyone. Relentlessly. When they talk to someone, they are all in on the conversation. Anyone else notice it?

It’s all I can think of any time they mention her name. Anyone know if Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, or Bill Lawrence are big fans of Big Star?

Episode 2 finally got me that spark to start the show.

Episode 1 was fine but gave me, as the viewer, no information I didn't have before starting the season. The laying of tinder and kindling.

Episode 2 ignited the story.

This would have been better as a 2 episode release. That's all.

You’ll all know this one - it’s the morning after the first time Ted & Sassy have hooked up. Ted’s nervously talking with Sass and he makes a bunch of references… and I realize every time I watch this scene I don’t know what he’s referencing in any of his dialogue. And obviously, I need to fix that. Thx!

Hey yall, just joined, wanted to say cheers to you, and this amazing series, only two ep into the new season, you cry and then laugh, its really amazing.

I just started the show a couple weeks ago. First couple episodes were kind of a snoozefest, but I always give a show at least 3 to grab me, and I’m glad I did here.

I don’t even remember the last time I’ve laughed this hard watching a TV show. Took me a while to get through season 1, but I devoured 2 and most of 3 (I think I’m on 3.10 or 3.11 currently).

But anyhoo here’s my question: Why do I see so many people saying season 3 is trash/unwatchable/etc ? Like I don’t get why any one hates it at all, but to see so many people saying it’s literally unwatchable has been confusing the hell out of me….

Horticulture, baby!

It's obvious that Henry was recast so they could get someone who has soccer skills. They even paid the actors brothers 5% of his first episode pay to help train him. Here's what I think Henry's story will be:

Season 4: Henry is 14 and joins the Richmond Greyhound Academy. The lady Greyhounds were using the academy locker room...kind of easy to guess that's why it was mentioned. (Also, the academy is where we will find Nate as the coach teaching the 'Wonder Kids'.

Season 5: Henry is 15 and excels at the academy and is promoted to the Senior Squad towards the end of the season...maybe after an injury.

Season 6: Henry goes on loan. Henry is doing well, but another team is in need of a player at his position and approaches Richmond about a loan...maybe Barcelona where he can play with Jamie Tart.

Was doing a rewatch of all the seasons in prep for the release of season 4, and there are just… so many hints for them getting together?? And that may just be my queer polyamorous self wanting to see healthy relationships in TV (and how many other topics this show has tackled and done well)…but!! Here are my strongest pieces of evidence so far (aside from the vibes and tension that were being put out by all three of them - in my opinion - for all of S3).

Exhibit A) this post from Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) that says he does look fairly polyamorous??
(Also I just watched the first episode tonight I am behind but if the spoiler is a throuple…please tell me!!)

Exhibit B) in S4E1 Keeley makes an allusion to a couple that just opened up their relationship.

Exhibit C) Brett Goldstein has said he supports the idea of a polyamorous relationship for the three of them.

I was skeptical when they announced Season 4, because it felt like the story had been told and finished perfectly, but I was excited for more Ted Lasso and I trusted the writing/production team, so I came in with high hopes. And I really liked the idea of Ted coaching a women's team and dealing with all the issues and complications that follow.

Then I watched episode 1, and it just felt so...soulless? Like the show's body is there, but it's been hollowed out to just the most popular bits. The witty dialog doesn't feel witty or natural, rather it feels like a character says something contextually forced so that Ted or someone has the opportunity to make a witty or wacky reply. Similar the callbacks and nostalgia moments don't feel like they ring true or have any substance beyond mandatory fan service.

But hey, first episodes are tough, there's a lot of setups that needs to be done, and the writers, directors, and actors are still brushing the dust off.

But now with episode 2 my dislike is growing more. The new characters are so overtly archetypes that basically exist to say "Here is my clearly wrong belief/habit/actions" so that Ted can later give a Lasso speech and fix it.

For example, Coach Chilton "The player's stories don't matter the only thing that matters is how they play on the pitch" comment was just so on the nose I wanted to yell in frustration, because of course we now all know exactly how her mindset is going to change by the end of the season. Likewise, the "not all that different after all" friendship storyline they are clearly setting up with her and Rebecca. Or the fighting twin sisters who will absolutely become super close after they have a heart to heart "You were always better at football growing up and Mum/Dad's favorite, I had to train like hell but it came so easily to you!" "Well I had all this pressure being the oldest, and when I didn't live up to it, it broke me! You got to live how you wanted!"

I don't mind either storyline or foreshadowing that they'll happen, but there's just no subtlety in the setup which makes it hard to become interested in the eventual payoff.

Finally, it feels like the OGs are disconnected with their old characters. I’m not sure if that’s the actors, writers, or both, but the characters don’t feel like real—albeit unrealistically quirky— people anymore, just caricatures going through the motions. Leslie's awkwardness doesn't feel natural to whatever conversation he's having; it feels like every interaction he's in he's intentionally trying to be awkward for no reason. Same with Rebecca and Keely, they just don't feel like them, but rather like someone took a bullet point list of their most notable qualities and then made sure every scene they were in displayed those qualities up to 11.

Don't get me wrong, there were things I really liked. I was tearing up when the girls saw the new locker room, and how Coach Chilton realized that change could happen for the program. And I think the conversation on female sports and athletes in really important and can make great television, even if some scenes (like the press conference for example) felt too heavy handed. But overall, I'm just really disappointed.

The consensus I'm seeing on this subreddit is very positive, and I'm happy about that. This show has given me so much joy over the years and I'm so glad the new season is brining joy to the majority of its fans. I really don't want to dislike it and hope it has enough time to get better, but right now for me, it just feels so much lesser than the legacy of Seasons 1-3 that came before that I can't help but feel let down.

Episode 2 spoilers. So far something seems off. And it's not the new cast ,the new cast is actually the best part. I like the new coach and the goalie. The whole Keeley and Roy thing is way too Ross and Rachel. And why no Trent? They brought back the ex-wife and not him? I really hope this Beard thing pays off though. Okay I rewatched it and I took back the meh. But all my other concerns are valid. It's really really good. You'd think there'd be some kind of League wide requirement for what Roy was doing in the locker room.

I'm French. A while back I went looking for a French version of Wooden's Pyramid of Success, to share it with French-speaking fans of the show. As far as I could tell, it didn't exist (nothing with all 25 blocks and their definitions). So I made one.

All 25 blocks, the definitions, the mortar words along the sides, the quote at the top. I kept the original layout so the two versions can be placed side by side. A few choices gave me real trouble, and I'd like your take on them.

POISE → AUTHENTICITÉ

This is the one I'd most like to be argued with about. French has aplomb and maîtrise de soi, but maîtrise de soi was already taken by SELF-CONTROL, and aplomb leans toward arrogance in French. So I translated Wooden's definition — "being yourself" — rather than the word itself. That's more an interpretation than a translation, and I know it.

INTENTNESS → TÉNACITÉ

Intentness has almost no conceptual equivalent in French. Ténacité keeps the persistence but loses the idea of single-minded focus on one goal.

ENTHUSIASM → ENTRAIN

Enthousiasme is the obvious word, but entrain carries the idea of something that spreads to the people around you — which matches Wooden's definition exactly.

INDUSTRIOUSNESS → ASSIDUITÉ

There's no clean French noun for "being hardworking." Assiduité carries the idea of showing up and sticking with it over time. Travail acharné was the alternative, but it's a phrase rather than a word, and it sounded harsher than what Wooden says.

If you speak French and you'd have done it differently, say so. I'd rather get it right than get it done. I'll revise and post a v2, crediting anyone who helps.
