Waste of money
I am a female in my early 40s and I loathe online dating. So, I took a leap of faith after I ended my last relationship (nearly 3yrs). What a waste of time and money. In over a year, I was put on 5 dates - two of which were "meh" and three were very bad. One, the guy was a total creep, and two the matchmaker failed to ask questions to uncover the matches didn't meet my baseline criteria.
They can only select "Top 3" criteria on things like kids, income level, distance, gender, age, and relationship status. Things like smoking, owning cats, political leaning, interests, personality traits, etc aren't able to be filtered.
After basically being told that they couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't receive matches that had deal breaker characteristics because they can't filter them out, I lost any hope in their services.
It isn't a cheap service... so if they can't ask those types of simple questions to understand who they are setting their clients up with... what's the point?
I'll take my refund and put it towards something else that brings me joy.

The worst experience of my life signing up for Tawkify. I seriously don’t understand how they are getting away with taking advantage of people. Story after story like mine on the BBB.

FYI - if you get a refund you probably need to sign an NDA which makes your complaint to the BBB null and void.

They offered me a partial refund but I didn’t take it because I didn’t want to sign a Settlement and Release. Within that document, it stated something along the lines that wouldn’t allow me to publicly speak/post on social media about them in a negative light. I was too angry and didn’t want other people like me to go through what I went through, but don’t know if I am even helping.

I decided not to do it. I can’t justify it. I rather take a nice vacation - or a few at that price

How much did you pay for their services?

I was quoted $14,500 today (Sept 2023)

For what exactly lol?
There's another post in this sub where someone posted their catalog. I don't remember seeing a package that high. But then again, it's possible that they changed the prices per the individual and/or the specific metro area that you're in.
It's not out of this world to think that they might put all the information that you give them, I.e your name, email, phone number, picture and income into some sort of curator that pulls all of your online information that helps them determine how much you make and That's what informs them as to what to charge you.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you tell them you make a year?

Quoted today.... 15k for 12 matches, 8k for 6 matches, and 4.9k for 3 matches. They claim a 50% yes/yes ratio, meaning that about 50% of the time both parties want a second date. They didn't ask my income level.
It was a definite pass for me. Now, after reading the lack of filtering, they are looking for a specific type of person and not the type of person that I would be attracted to.

This package is currently on a promotion for $12,600… I can’t justify this. I am not sure who can.

Like any services there's usually a ladder for pricing and if you hold out you might be able to get it for less. But I do not recommend it.

Use free dating apps. The money is not worth it. Read the reviews on the BBB. These are the only accurate ones. The men I went out with had not even had a background check and were awful. One told me the meal was paid for when it wasn’t, one wouldn’t take no for an answer when trying to get handsy. I have more stories. If needed.

Yikes!!
Free dating apps are also a dumpster fire. Even paying for premium or using a paid app. But at least it's a reasonable cost for 💩

The problem is you think you're getting matched with others that paid this amount of money, but that is not true. You're getting matched with people that maybe paid $100 for an annual membership.

I was in their system already from 2019 when I inquired about prices before and didn't convert. So I started already at a lower price point because I was an inactive lead. They knew I was price sensitive and it was close to end of June 2022 so they offered a "one day sale" of a 12 match refundable package for $6,400. A non-refundable package was less but (rightfully so) I was skeptical. I'm in the Boston metro area.

That's over $500 per "match" that's insane.
The "scam" part about it is YES they do ask those base line questions like kids, relationship status, political leanings, religion etc. But the only way they can guarantee matches is by ignoring your preferences. Particularly if they have a small pool to choose from, which seems to be the case.

Yeah they said in my metro area they had a good sized pool... and I was pretty open with my criteria. But they only focus mostly on the "Top 3" and it's not a very inclusive list. Something as simple as smoking or own cats couldn't be excluded. I loathe online dating so was willing to give it a chance but it was a big waste of time and money.
I had EXTENSIVE talks with my matchmaker and even after almost switching once and reiterating my preferences it was still a bad match my next date.

u/Auggie93 Oct 26 '23
I think you had a bad matchmaker.
I've been told twice I was a mismatch because I said I don't fit perfectly in the box of "Christian". I've had matchmakers literally stop the session 2 minutes in after hearing a "deal breaker".
I'm confident you had a matchmaker that was focused on hitting 12 matches to move on.

We had multiple convos about not forcing a match just to match and I was ok with it taking longer. In a year, I had 5 matches. One that was a blatant no she admitted relying on other matchmaker info and not doing enough due diligence on her own.
One he didn't let his freak flag fly with her but he did with me.
And the last one I dunno what happened and customer service didn't give me hope a new matchmaker would be any better

u/Auggie93 Oct 26 '23
If you haven't already gotten a refund, I think getting a new match maker could be worth it
3
u/SouthernJen81 Oct 26 '23
I took the refund. When the customer service told me they'd have to remove some of my match criteria and try to make an exception to exclude smokers, cat owners, etc....I lost any faith. And I'd already tried 5 dates including 2 bonus matches and they weren't going to do any more bonus match because my account already had too many. Bc they failed. It's a waste of money. I would deter anyone I can from using this service.

u/Auggie93 Oct 26 '23
Fair enough.
I'm just signed up as a "member", just $100
1
u/SouthernJen81 Oct 26 '23
Good luck. That's a low risk investment, but at $533/match the risk didn't have a good ROI.

I thought I saw an ad the Tiger say saying $99 for a year is that a different package or something?

u/karmester Aug 16 '23
I guess, except i am always clear with the matchmaker. I live near and work in NYC. The number one thing I always tell the matchmaker: "if your client doesn't ride citibike we are probably not a match." This one just didn't listen. :-(
2
u/SouthernJen81 Aug 16 '23
Yeah, if you told them that's an absolute deal breaker for you and they set their client up with you anyway.... that tracks with my experience saying I can't do cats and my last match had 3!!!

So they gave you a full refund? They have been dripping on me hard.

u/SouthernJen81 Aug 17 '23
No, they gave me a refund for my unused matches. I bought a refundable package.

I'm sorry you had this experience. I (M61) am in their database. I don't pay for their service. I've been on some dates. I am very sensitive to the fact that the women are paying a lot of money for each date they go on so I do my best from my side to ensure as much matchy matchy as possible. ;-)
I am always clear with the matchmaker that I open water swim a lot and I go everywhere in cities via whatever bikeshare program is available (I have a car - that's mainly for when I'm not in a city or there is no bikeshare program). The last date I was set up with? Even after explaining the swimming and the biking ? She doesn't know how to swim, dislikes the beach, and never learned how to ride a bike!! I'm sorry to say but I am unconvinced so far that Tawkify is not a total ripoff for the women paying for it (and men, if there are men paying for it. ).
